I went wireless before my five kids knew what a wireless was. I, by the way, was also using a PC in college and, had to explain to people what a PC was. Don't underestimate us seniors.

Yes we still use land line. But I wish that rotary dialing was still available. I had cell once but the math was not adding up. Why have a phone on you when land line is just as good. I am not on anybodies must have to speak with list. But we do carry a trac phone for emergencies. a $20 card can last me 3 to 4 months. That should give you an idea why I got rid of the regular cell phone. Its cheaper over the long run with a trac phone.

We have had both for years. We seldom use the land line but need it for fax machine, home security system, and dsl.

I seldom even check my answering machine because hardly any one calls us on the land line. For years I used the cell phone only for emergencies and wouldn't even give out the number. I have fallen into the habit of the mainstream however, and use it all the time now. I still don't like being available to anyone at any time and will not use my cell phone when I'm driving or in a public place. My voice mail gets a lot of use.

I have a seperate land line for my computer dial up. And I still have my other land line. but I hardly use that. I hate talking on the phone. I do have a cell phone, which I use only for emergencies. But it will be cancelled shortly, as I do not currently pay for it. And the monthy charges are too expensive and you have to commit to a two year plan. I would like to have just the dial up for the computer, and a cell, but then I would have to leave my cell on all the time and that will eat up the batteries. As much as I really use the phone cell or land line. I really don't care, but have to have something for emergency or when I do need to use the phone, and I definityly need the land line for the computer, or I would be lost without it.

Yes. It's a back-up for the computer for when cable goes out. Yes I do use my land line phone. Have no idea what you mean "off grid or back on grid".

We have both, a land line and a prepaid cell phone. I am on

a dial up ISP again, and if someone tries to call me on the

landline, and it's busy due to my being on the computer, the

people can reach me by the cell number. I have given that

number to those who need to reach me. Including my doctor.

The cell number is actually more important, since I can almost

always receive calls on it. Unless it is hiding on a jacket

pocket and we have to go through a few to locate the phone

first. I've lost a few calls when I've had to search for the actual

phone. Only to answer it, as the person on the other end is

    hanging up.

Got cell phone 10 yrs ago, so could be reached at any time for my son (was newborn). Quit working, thought I would be home all time, got land line, had cell turned off. Really realized was much needed in emergencies. got cell phone back again. Use both but cell mainly. Very seldom answer home phone, answering machine for that.

In the USA if you own a PC you have to have a land line. If I could do it all over again I would buy a laptop and get a cell phone! Regrettably AT&T has this market wrapped up and I cannot switch to anything right now! CJ

I have a land line in my home and use it most of the time because I have a good package with Virgin which gives me unlimited any time calls to 01, 02 and 03 calls (providing I stay connected for no more than one hour). After one hour I pay for the whole call from the time I dialled so I set a timer to remind me when 50 minutes have gone.

My pay-as-you-go mobile is used only when away from the house and when essential. Twenty GBP lasts me a year unless something unusual happens.

Tried several cell phones. Can't get service in the house, have to go out in the yard to make a call. The hell with that, I'll stick with the land line.
