Medi-cal in California?

Anyone over the age of 21 that has Medi-Cal?

Hubby just got laid off and our health insurance through his work will end by the end of the month.

I am working on applying for Medi-Cal right now, but unsure of the procedures. I currently work PT, my baby is Due early March. I have a 6 year old child as well. Hubby will is looking to get another job, also hopefully receiving Unemployment for the time being. If I am able to receive Medi-Cal what exactly will it cover? Like delivery, my child's doctor visits?

Update:

His job was stable. We work in the same field. Insurance for Worker's Comp, I've dealth with being laid off before but it was done with notice. His was no notice at all. It just happen all in one day. He was brought in to a conference room by the HR lady, and they said his position was eliminated. How can we possibly prepare ourselves for something like that? Especially for someone that has worked with the company for over 1 year.

I don't have an issue working full time. I've just started to work PT just for a few months. Besides I am currently 35 weeks, no point trying to obtain a full time job now is there? We choose this route because we were working in the same offfice but for different employers so carpooling saved us a lot.

What deadbeats are you talking about? I am only concerned in having medical coverage for my children. What is wrong about getting assistance for a short period of time? I am not living off anyone, I am able to work and provide for my family.

Update 2:

Thank you Nanook and Jill your answers were very helpful. :D

Here's a link to what you need and want to know- http://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/medi-cal/Pages/def... You can even apply on line. I suggest getting started immediately so you have one less thing to worry about.

It sounds like you guys are having a rough time, I hope things look up for you soon =). Take care.

I don't know specifically about Medi-cal as I don't live there, but generally, in all states, when you are pregnant and are eligible for maternal Medicare it covers 100% of all routine office visits, your entire labor and delivery hospital costs (including any anesthesia like an epidural), and you remain covered for at least 6 weeks so that you can have your 1 postpartum appointment. Your child is automatically enrolled at birth and is usually covered 100% for one year.

If you are eligible, your 6 year old will likely be covered also. Just call the office where you applied - they can answer these questions for you.

And in response to the nasty first answer - heaven forbid you get laid off from a job or suffer from an illness that leaves you incapable of working and you end up needing public assistance as a temporary means of getting by. Actually, it would be a nice lesson in humanity for you. Not everyone is a deadbeat who keeps having babies to earn benefits from the government. Those are the stereotype - and the minority of those who use public assistance.

Next time, make sure you have a stable career and good health insurance before you get pregnant.

I certainly hope you are going to start working full time while your SO finds work.

I am so tired of supporting deadbeats. I have my own pregnancy to worry about.....I'm working full time, so can you.
