Money. Best friend engage?
my best friend got engaged last week. They are both coming to dinner tonight and as they are going to live in Australia, I am going to give money instead of a present. How much should I give her. I am a student nurse and I have very little . Whats enough and what is not???

I'm not really sure why you feel compelled to give them money when this is your best friend. You may feel that they have everything or don't need anything for their house, but in the end, what does money really do for them? What effect will $50 really have on their lives?
If you feel that you must give them money (even though you yourself are very strapped for cash, and that might be 2 weeks worth of food for you), then go ahead. But why not give them a nice token of friendship instead? A framed collage of pictures of you and your friend, with open places for them to put pictures of the happy couple? It would be a lot less expensive, and be something for them to remember and cherish. If you are crafty, you could knit or crochet a blanket for them, or offer to take photographs for the wedding (as a present), or offer to help prepare food or decorations.
All these things will mean more than money. You are helping them out by building memories and friendships. A token of money, though very kind and thoughtful, doesn't carry the same emotional weight as good memories, or something handmade in their honor.

Buy them a few lottery tickets! You can get away with parting with less than you would if you just gave them cash, and if you pick a winning ticket, the they have no cause for complain.
If they lose, then at least you provide them with an exciting experience!
So, ten or twenty pounds would make things quite interesting.

It is not the money , but the friendship that she will want to keep the most. I am sure she will understand , as you don't have much to give, but she will value your friendship more
