Windows Movie Maker - squashed final published movie?

Windows Movie Maker - squashed published final movie?

Using Windows Movie Maker, I made a complex 5 minute film incorporating titles and audio. Prior to publishing, I previewed it as I went along and it appeared to play perfectly within WMM.

Having published it to my computer for uploading to Youtube, the opening title plays fine in Windows Media Player, but then the rest of the film is squashed up in the top half of the screen - all the video is there, but the bottom half of the screen is black and the entire moving image is in the top 50%. The titles I added all appear perfectly at the base of the screen exactly where they should be.

I have made dozens of movies using the same procedure and software with zero problems - any ideas? Is it possibly codec based?

I assume you are on Vista? Check the video clips you are using. Most likely you are using an incompatible file type like Divx/Xvid/MPEG-4 and it causes problems on publishing.

Convert your DivX or XviD clip to a compatible file type (DV-AVI or WMV) and try again.
