  • Is there a free FLV downloader that is currently working with YouTube?

I have uploaded a number of clips to YouTube that took me considerable time and effort to produce. The computer the original files are on gave up the ghost and I want make copies of the clips I uploaded.

I have tried to download the FLV files using Wondershare and Moyea free trial versions, but they do not work.

Are there any free FLV downloaders that have no malware, that currently work?

  • In the UK, can civilians outside of the employ of police, enforce offences that have not been decriminalised?

Currently, in the UK, apart from regular officers, only civilians who work under the umbrella of the police service can enforce speeding offences, speeding still being a criminal offence. Could the police delegate the pursuance of speeding offences to a private company (non-police employees) to carry out speed enforcement if speeding is not decriminalised?

  • Leaving British Gas Fixed Price 2011 for another supplier?

Having been with British Gas for some some years for both electricity and gas supply, I now wish to leave for a much cheaper company. The problem is that being on 'Fixed Price 2011', British Gas are saying I have to pay them £100 to leave them.

The company I want to change to say this is nonsense and I don't have to pay, I am just changing suppliers and there is nothing legally binding to say I have to give them anything above and beyond my final bill.

Does anyone have any experience of this or advice?

  • Aspartame-free protein powder in the UK?

Can anyone recommend a good tasting, easy to mix protein powder that doesn't contain aspartame/artificial sweetener that is readily in the UK?

Ideally it should be sweetened with fructose or something similar. I have already tried a really chalky uninteresting product purchased from Holland & Barrett, so no need to recommend that.

  • Ebay problem with Pay-pal refund?

My daughter spent her first pay-packet on a mobile phone for her mother's birthday and paid by Pay-pal. The Ebay ad said it was new and unused, but when it arrived it was actually quite beaten up and didn't work. She returned it immediately and has confirmation it was delivered okay. She emailed the sender who emailed back saying she would do the refund - this was a month ago and despite continual emails from my daughter, the sender. a woman, now ignores her.

What are my daughter's options for a full refund?

  • Guitar strings rattle - can't cure it.?

I have a considerable collection of guitars, electric and acoustic. Like most guitarists, I favour a select few for their playability, tone and aesthetic appeal. One in particular, a Schecter PT (a telecaster copy) stands out head and shoulders above the rest, but I recently swapped the strings for 'skinny top/heavy bottom'.

What was previously perfection has now been replaced with the bottom E and A rattling at every fret. I have adjusted the saddles, messed with the trussrod, but no change - any ideas?

  • YouTube duplicate profile violation?

My Youtube username has been duplicated exactly and now the other person is running riot swearing at anyone and everyone and superficially it appears to be me to anyone who reads it. This has been done by signing up a new username and replacing the 'L' in my name with a capital 'i', so when YouTube displays my name it comes out as a 'l' and appears exactly the same as mine.

I have attempted to contact YouTube but cannot find a link or a way to get it stopped - how do I proceed?

  • Recording digital signal from television with in-built tuner?

I have a recent model Sony television that has a digital tuner built-in. With the remote control I can switch from the five terrestrial stations to all the freeview channels (I am in the UK). What I want to do is record freeview programmes so if I buy a hard-disc/CD recorder also with a built-in digital tuner, would I be able to plug the domestic tv aerial into the recorder then another aerial/scart into the tv, essentially then allowing the normal signal to be received by the tv which would allow it to get the freeview channels, whilst letting the recorder let me record the freeview channels from its own internal tuner?

  • Which Locking tuners on my Fernandes Vertigo X?

I have a considerable numbers of guitars, however I am extremely drawn to one in particular, a Fernandes Vertigo X. It has perfect balance, a beautiful fretboard, exquisite action, however it is somewhat limited in that it only has a single humbucker which is rather lacklustre and a single volume pot (no tone control).

I'd like to upgrade it to give it a bit more 'chunk', starting with locking tuners. How exactly do you know which tuners to order, in that, will they fit the instrument?

  • I am trying to find the name of a movie;?

It was advertised in the trailers at my local cinema but I never got around to seeing it. It was about two years + ago, the film involved something that happened in an American city (no, not 'The Happening'), it was some kind of event. There were some people in a house or apartment and they had to tape up the windows I seem to remember and couldn't go out.

Any ideas? I have no clue who was in it - this is NOT Wahlberg's 'The Happening' which I did see, but wish I hadn't bothered.

  • Fender Esquire pickup upgrade?

Despite having more guitars than I can admit to the wife as owning, I bought a Mexican Fender Esquire reissue on a whim about a year ago.

I find it ergonmically pleasing, with a low easy action, but its output is extremely lacklustre and it suffers from the usual bad hum associated with single-coils (obviously it only has one).

I was wondering if anyone has experience of swapping the pickup in an Esquire? What would be recommened for a hum-free replacement - anyone put a humbucker in - if so, what?

Also, are there any problems with the wiring as it has three-way switching on the one single-coil?

  • Windows Movie Maker - squashed final published movie?

Windows Movie Maker - squashed published final movie?

Using Windows Movie Maker, I made a complex 5 minute film incorporating titles and audio. Prior to publishing, I previewed it as I went along and it appeared to play perfectly within WMM.

Having published it to my computer for uploading to Youtube, the opening title plays fine in Windows Media Player, but then the rest of the film is squashed up in the top half of the screen - all the video is there, but the bottom half of the screen is black and the entire moving image is in the top 50%. The titles I added all appear perfectly at the base of the screen exactly where they should be.

I have made dozens of movies using the same procedure and software with zero problems - any ideas? Is it possibly codec based?

  • Are actors who smoke 'at work', breaking the law?

I was watching a British soap opera yesterday and several of the characters were smoking in a scene with other non-smoking actors present.

However you cut it, by definition, this is a workplace. Just because it is somewhat out of the norm in that the results of their working day are broadcast, should it make any legal difference?

I don't know of any other workplace where smoking is allowed. I accept the 'realism' aspect of depicting real life situations, but is there some form of dispensation for TV companies?

  • Benson & Hedges 'Iguana' cinema ad from the 70's?

Back in the seventies, I used to go to the cinema a lot and there was a fabulous ad with a lizard in a swimming pool and a helicopter. The music used to send shivers up my spine and I have since researched this in an attempt to find a copy of the ad on the internet - but to no avail.

This ad cost £2m to produce and won awards and it appears I am not alone in trying to find it as there are forum questions asking the same thing.

I have scoured Youtube and all the compilations of cinema ads - but strangely it isn't included in any of them.

Does anyone know where I can access this footage??? It is actually called 'Iguana'.

  • London Weighting - times have changed - is it fair?

This question is aimed at British residents, or more exactly, those who live in the south of the UK.

I live in Bristol and my employer gives people doing exactly the same job something called 'London Weighting'. This equates to £4000 more per annum just for living in London on the basis it is more expensive.

Food costs the same here in Bristol, bus fares are much cheaper in London, property prices have balanced and I see no difference in equivalent properties in the centre of Bristol - the suburbs being on a par.

With people moving out of the capital and into the more rural areas - London Weighting is now an outdated and outmoded concept.

    What say you?

  • When does consciousness develop in human beings?

I have always struggled with the concept of consciousness - the planet was originally swirling gas, then molten rock which then cooled.

What I cannot grasp is where was consciousness at that point - do we assume it did not exist and it sprang from nowhere = 'Poof, I'm alive'?

    My core question is;

Does consciousness exist in both sperm and egg that then fuse to create a combined consciousness, does it suddenly start in the womb from nothing, or does the mother pass it on?

  • What song is this please?

    Not too sure of the lyrics, but it goes;

    'You can't feed the hungry

You can't feed chicken to a monkey'

    This fairly recent.

  • What constitutes 'workplace' with regard to the new smoking legislation?

This is a serious question, one that I asked previously only to be met with howls of derision.

I accept that the legislation encompasses bars, bus garages, shopping centres etc - but there are a considerable number of workers who enter peoples' homes in the line of their work. I don't just mean plumbers and the like - there are social workers and other similar professions.

I am not asking about the moral aspects of entering or telling people to stop smoking in your presence - my question is, what is the definition of WORKPLACE?

  • Why don't 98% of people simple Google their answers?

    I witness this time and time and time again - someone asks a question, could be any subject - example;

'Who is the lead singer of Radiohead?'

All they have to do is use their search engine of choice. Countless subjects, countless easily researched answers - what is wrong with people?
