why are teens so impatient about getting a tattoo ??

Tattoos to some people are just something to get because their friend has one. I was in the tattoo shop this weekend and a girl came in and said "I want angel wings on my back" The artist told her he would draw her up something really nice and she could come back later that week...she said "Yeah I told my friends I was getting it this weekend so I will just go somewhere else" She could have ended up with a really nice tattoo instead she probably walked out of some junk shop with a crappy tattoo she will hate in 2 years. I have great pride in my tattoos and I have put a lot of thought, planning, and care into them. I find it insulting when certain people treat tattoos like a sticker and not the wonderful artwork they really are.

I'm most likely one of those annoying 15 year old girls. I have never asked where I could get tattooed underage. I looked it up and learned about it. Many teens have tattoos now because 'rock' bands have them.

Also shows like Miami Ink, LA ink and London ink show how beautiful the art can be. The thing I don't like about those shows is that they don't talk about how the tattoo is made, how long these people think about what they are getting, they don't talk about safety or how can happen if things aren't clean or you go to a art that has no idea what they are doing.

A lot of teens are doing home tattoos which are dangerous and it also gives a bad name for tattoos. Teens should be more educated about the subject. Find a website that goes over the responsablilties of a tattoo, safety and cleaning, how to choose an artist and things like that. Once you find a website you are happy with post it into people answers when you see questions like that.

I knew at 15 that I wanted a tattoo......

And, funny, I never felt the need, in all those years, to ask anyone 'Should I get a tattoo? of what? where? how sore is it...?'. Infact, the only person who knew I was getting my first, was my hubby! lol

I don't understand it either....I can only think that all these young teenagers are wanting a tattoo for the image, or attention they think they may get from having one. If only they would realise that it will be yesterdays news within a day or two, and then they'll have a tattoo, for the wrong reasons, forever...

Hear hear! I searched for 5 years to find just the right artist to do my most recent tattoo - for me they are very symbolic and meaningful, so I think it's foolish to get something just because it's 'cute' or 'cool'.

But isn't that all part of being a teenager? You don't think about long term, just something that makes you unique in the here and now. Popularity, or at the very least conforming to non-conformity seems like the most important thing in the world. Few and far between seem to be the level-headed teenagers who knows what they want but are willing to wait for it!

It's a fashion. And kids think that they're pretty cool. I know people who'd done homemade tattoos (ouch I know) whilst under the legal age by two years, and both of my friends, two years on, are pretty happy with their ink, and are planning on having them gone over by a professional to neaten them up a bit.

I know this isn't universal for everybody, but I think that it's up to an individual what they want to do with their own skin.

there's a lot of reasons. It's to fit in with everyone else (especially those who do have them already), it's a trend thing that occurs in most people in their teens-30, it's because it's something that they can't get by themselves (have to have a parent with them, it's like alcohol or ciggarettes- they can't buy them until they are legal!), some do it to seem older, and others have their own personal reasons.

They have no concept of time.. they want what they want, when they want it.. The word "forever" means nothing. Its like the new pair of shoes that just came out and everyone wants and begs their parents for them then they grow out of them and the style was so last year and they don't understand that you can't toss out your arm, leg or lower back.. thats why the law is the way it is so little suzy can't go into the tattoo shop and get "property of johnny" tattooed on her forehead..

I agree with you totally - and I'm 14 years old! Your opinions change constantly and what you want at 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20 are all totally different. I mean really; when you were eight, you wanted a pony on your shoulder, when you were fifteen you wanted a cherry on your ankle and now that you are legally able, you want something way different.

In this wonderful world we live in,there are sooo many things available to us,BUT for a price.

NIce cars,jewlery,clothes,homes,travel,etc,etc,etc

Kids are NOW more than ever influenced by the media.

They see a rapper on tv and he/she is wearing all the jewelry and have all the money,cars and attractive nenbers of the opposite sex always on their arm.....

there are things that kids CAN have,but they know they have to wait and save up for them,,,,I know a guy that saved from the time he was 14 till he turned 18 to buy a porsche....

Tatto's are something that we see in the media all the time.

there are whole tv series based on just tatoo's.

but the biggest attraction is that you can do it RIGHT NOW.....

Its a thing that they relate with all the glam of the media hype that they can access without having to wait,which is the trap so many of us fall into anymore,with our "I want it now" society.

As for me....I am president of a trucking company which is growing extremely fast and I've got my sights on a 15 million dollar yacht,,,BUT I know that is 8,or 10 yrs away....lol (but I will get it)...........RIGHT NOW,,,I have to settle for a little slip of a boat............maybe I'll call it "My tatoo".........(lol)

Because they want to be cool RIGHT NOW.

They need to get a tattoo so they can show all the BFFLs in the lunch room and make them jealous.
