Something You should know about chihuahuas...?
This isn't really a question, but I didn't know where else to put it.
As Monica (A Yahoo answers user) pointed out, some chihuahuas are bad and get out, nip at people out of fear, and usually end up being put down by their owners, who are unwilling to train them.
The chihuahua that scared off mailmen in Indiana? He didn't bite anybody. He just scared them. (He was not put down. He was adopted.)
The pack of chihuahuas that attacked a cop? They were Quarentined, but not put down, as the officer was leading the boy to the door in cuffs, AND on their territory.
Look CLOSER at these attacks before getting up on your soapbox and saying "Oh, ALL dogs should be put down for biting and not just big dogs!" (You REALLY want to give the Govt. More power? Instead of picking on a FEW breeds, they'll pick on ALL breeds. In other words, just like BSL, only with all breeds.)
THAT SAID: I'd like to point out my 2 dogs. Coco (2 yr. Female, long hair, white and brown spotted) is a BIT stand offish, but once she gets to know you, she's your best friend. She has bitten ONE person, but that person picked her up from behind and made loud noises in her face (She drew blood, but she's up to date on her vaccinations). And yes, I punished her, like you do a kid when he's bad,. She NEVER bit anybody again, and now I warn people before they approach her, like a good owner should.
My other chihuahua (Nester, Male, Fawn colored short hair.) Loves EVERYBODY. I've brought him to church, to the homes of the elderly, and pass him person to person, without ANY trouble. The only time he even growled was at another dog. (He was scared.) I'm socializing him SLOWLY to other dogs, and he's doing great. (I supervise him, of course.)
Before you pit bull people rag on small dogs, realize that, like pit bulls, it's the OWNER that decides whether the dog's good or bad.
TO ALL OF THE "STINA'S" OUT THERE: There are MANY alternatives to destroying a dog. I've asked, I've researched, I've come up with my own ideas even. (See my "What do you think of this dog law?" question.)
@Stina: KILLER CHIHUAHUA?! LOL WOW!! It's possible, but probably a LOT less common, as they can't do NEARLY as much as what a pit bull or even a Labrador can easily do.
The media also reports on Pomeranian, dachshunds, chihuahuas, and other small dogs raising hell in the neighborhood, because their owner can't control them. They are a bit easier to control, as they have a lot less muscle mass, and I've known many big dog owners that react to this, get mad and say "Just kill the thing!" THIS actually gives chihuahuas bad media attention. I'm just trying to counter some of the things I've read.
And yes, I owned a lab/pitbull mix (Jerry. He died of old age at 16). He was the SWEETEST dog. (GOD I miss him...)

DON"T laugh there was a human death from a yorkshire terrier and they are not much bigger....
I however do agree each case needs to be treated on an individual basis... some bites are not the dogs fault. but be real now- the size of the dog DOES have to come into consideration because this IS the real world
Then there was a probaly insane person in my area bought like 5 dogs and claimed they ALL bit the persons child within 24 hrs. I met one (who had been rescued by someone drove across the state at 10:00 at night to get him) nothing tempermentally wrong with him - if he bit someone he was tormented into it -more likely 4 (or all 5) of the dogs bit no one and the person is nuts

You're suggesting that the government would ban dogs altogether. The government doesn't even ban smoking, cars, and fast food restaurants, which kill millions more than a furry little pack of Chihuahuas could ever hope to.
I do believe that human-aggressive dogs should be put down, especially with the many non-human-aggressive dogs we have being euthanized in shelters. And in my mind, the ability to kill doesn't matter.
This argument is really out there, and completely irrelevant. But thanks for the two points.
EDIT: Okay, now that you are clearly raving about nothing, I'm going to add my two cents. Us "pit bull people" don't "rag on small dogs". We DEFEND the breed we love, just as you are pointlessly defending yours. Have you EVER seen a news story about a killer chihuahua? Do people avoid YOU in the streets because of your breed? Do they blame YOU for the bad dogs in the world?
EDIT: It is more common than you think. Chihuahuas may not kill, but they sure as heck can do a lot of damage. I personally have had my worst bites from a Min Pin and a Shih Tzu (and this is after working with MANY more pit bulls than small dogs).
But you're comparing apples and oranges. Pit Bull mixes are the most popular breeds in the United States. Labs are second. Naturally, there will be more reports of Pits biting than of any other breed, BUT the only reports that are EVER reported via the news stations are "this Pit killed a little boy" (ignoring the fact that the family had it locked in a basement and enjoyed showing their children how to beat it with a crowbar).
Have you EVER heard of someone doing something like that to a Chihuahua? I really don't see a point to this question. And it isn't even a question!

Yay Stina-you go! I work minpin rescue and we put down the human aggressive ones when they bite. There is no reason to defend a human aggressive dog, I dont care how small it it is. If it is vicious, it is vicious. Period. The last dog we euthanized bit a child in the face while sitting on her lap. Dog did quite a bit of damage.

i agree (not on the pit bull part) but with the rest. My best friend had two chihuahuas and Camilla (female-practically hairless) only bit any one once because she had a sore on her back and they touched it and kiko (male short hair) has only bit twice once he was playing around and didn't mean to hurt anyone and the 2nd time because he was scare because my friends brother slammed a door then grabbed him up VERY fast and roughly

Unfortunately many owners of small dogs neglect to take them to Obedience lessons for socialization, and thus they become problems...
I worked at a shelter - on average we had more problems from small dogs just because their owners babied them and sheltered them.. without their owner they were nuts...
Obedience lessons teach more than "sit" and "stay"...
