o2 sensors monitor the excess fuel burnt in the emission system, if the sensors go bad your check engine light will stay on until they are fixed, if you live in a state where they require immisions testing your car will not pass.. Otherwise the onlyhy thing you will notice is an increase in gas consumption... You still need to have your car checked because there may be other problems such as bad EGR or a bad throttle body and many more good luck

I certainly have a similar set-up different than my automobile is a pt speedier, there are extra effective than one o2 you probably did not state what 02 you're speaking approximately, you're able to be comfortable with the set-up and you are able to % a sparkling 02, we've discovered that the stay sparkling of 02 sensor is a extra robust in good shape than the aftermarket for what you % , i replaced my 02 with a aftermarket had some subject concerns offered the stay sparkling of section and not in any respect had the different 02 subject concerns, if the 02 is lazy then you definately will adventure fluctuations from lean to prosperous as quickly as closed loop is carried out..additionally replace your thermostat, you will detect a difference interior the gas mileage and how the automobile idles, as this to will help the ecm lean out the aggregate as purely some stages in water temp will make important adjustments in engine overall performance

It can have an enormous effect on the performance of your car, as it controls the amount of gas and air that gets sent to your engine.
I have a 96 Mazda and I was having about the same problem. Engine light came on and the idle was very rough. I changed the pre-catalytic converter o2 sensor (there is another after the catalytic converter on the Mazda) and it smoothed the idle and acceleration measurably.
It can get expensive though, especially with 4 o2 sensors. For the one it cost me around $150 at AutoZone

Yes, the o2 sensors have alot to with it. I had an aerostar that I rolled(very long story!) anyway, the oil got into the system and I literally had to trash it. It would've cost more to clean it than replace it. They shouldn't be too hard for you todo on your car, if you're mechanically inclined.
