This is blatant idiocy....any religion that puts doctrine ahead of life in such a circumstance is worthy of only having fools for followers.

If he isn´t in too bad a state then he can have his own blood saved for the operation. It is interesting that in the Bible there a prohibition against drinking blood(intravenous injections weren´t invented then) and if that were followed today it would prevent the spread of various deadly diseases. On the other hand many thousands of lives have been saved by blood transfusions.

Curious why you let one branch of a religion (J/W) dictate why you are an atheist.?
I'm Christian Reformed and we will most happily accept blood transfusions, so will any other Protestant faith (and Catholic for that matter).
Don't let HIS faith and religion make you not believe.
Good luck, and may God continue to shine on you.

Yeah, Jehovah's Witnesses believe this. They interpret "Be not partakers of blood" to mean "Be not recipients of blood transfusions."
But hey -- if they want to die, I say, let them. It's their right, it's their body, and I'm sure the world would be a better place without so many Jehovah's Witnesses around.

I suppose if you believe strongly enough in prayer, you don't need medical care. However, I think they forget that God helps those who help themselves.
I'd love to see where in the Bible it talks about blood transfusions though. I've heard of this behavior before but I just don't get it!

maybe they believe death is the solution. if blood transfusion is not ok, try plasma transfusion that will thin out the blood and keep the man alive.

As far as I am aware, only the Jehovah's Witnesses prohibit the use of blood in surgery.

Unfortunately, many people do silly things for religion and because of religion, this is one of those cases.

Well thats custom in the J/W religion but that is why you are an atheist? WOW, good reason, NOT!
J/W=founded in 1800 made up by Charles Taze Russell.
I don't believe that either but not an atheist
