Joseph Smith was called by god to lead this dispensation?
It is true that Joseph Smith saw and was called of God as a prophet. Just like all the other prophets and apostles in the old and new testament.
No one else has claimed to see god except for him. The book of mormon is proof of gods work. It testifies of Jesus Christ that he lived and died for us.
Joseph Smith Saw god the Father and Jesus Christ. Moses, Abraham, Noah and the Apostles have all seen and testified of Jesus Christ. They have all received Christs' teachings and authority to act in his name.

Ha! That is so funny. Did you know there is NO linguistic, anthropologic, archaelogic, or cultural evidence anywhere in North, Central or South America that the Book of Mormon is true?
The B of M claims that the ancestors of the American Indians were a family of from the Middle East (Lehi's family.) This has been proven false by testing Mitochondrial DNA which, unlike the DNA found in the Nucleus, changes very little from generation to generation. Over 5,000 modern American Indians from 2,000 different tribes have submited their DNA to various groups for testing.
The Result: 99% of indian DNA showed that they came from Asia, particularly Siberia. The other 1% came from....drum roll please...Europe. Zero percent tested positive with certainty for any kind of group from the middle east.
Also, Haplo Group X has been found in Siberia, again debunking the idea that it could only have come from the Middle East. It is present in Europeans as well.
Ancient runes (and bones) show that certain ancient European groups landed in northern Canada long before Columbus OR the Vikings. Haplo group X could have come from either the siberians or the Europeans.
Also note their is vast physical (i.e. ruins, tools, language, etc...) evidence that these groups (siberians and early europeans a.k.a. cro-magnon man) arrived in America, but there is none that any group came from the middle east.
Clumsy: It is currently impossible to prove that haplo group x found in mayans did not come from the middle east. However, it is far more likely that it came from the Europeans i mentioned that have been proven to land in North America. In fact, the farther north you go in the Americas, the more Haplogroup X is present. In North-East Canada it is the most present, which is consistent with the idea (and ruins and languages) that cro-magnon europeans arrived and bred with Asaian natives thousands of years ago. Theses dscendents gradually spread south until Haplogroup X is now found in small amounts in many native groups.
My only point is that hoping the presence of haplogroup X in Mayans comes from the middle east is grasping at straws. It is far more likely that it came from the Europeans I have referenced and of which there is far more evidence.

The real true BIble says that no man has seen God at any time. So that cant be true. Joseph Smith was confused and so are the many followers. The book of mormon is proof of nothing. The Bible testifies that Jesus Christ lived and died for us. Why do you need another gospel when its already here. Why would anyone want to wear all those undergarments just to be holy enough to be a good Mormon. That isnt in the BIble. For more info go to LDS Temple endowment homepage to learn from someone who was there what goes on in the Temple. It is pretty interesting. God bless you

no we do not need a prophet. we have the word of god and the holy spirit to guide and lead us. the people who had prophets did not have the word of gd but had just parts of it. satan does not have power over the church because of no priest the holy spirit of god keeps satan out of the church and the holy spirit tells people the truth the problem we have now is people do not have the holy spirit and make up their own teachings or believe lies. god said this would happen 1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; the holy spirit tells us the truth 1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. the people in the old testament did not have the holy spirit living in them as we do today as christians. no the LDS is not the one true church. the true church is every believer who has called on jesus to save them and believe jesus rose from the dead, not a religion. romans 10:9-10

those that have read the book of mormon and followed moroni's advice will find for themselves that Joseph Smith was and still is a true prophet of God and he did as the lord commanded him, the book of Mormon was not written, it was divinely translated, and that is all the proof you need, if the book of mormon is true, (and it is) then Joseph Smith is a Prophet and everything else is true.

I believe he did see god, and that he was a Prophet. Most people don't, though.
As for him being the only one to see God... Joseph Smith stated in his account of the First Vision that he saw God and Jesus and that they were clearly separate people. I believe God and Jesus appeared to him and let him see them so that he knew they were separate people, not the Trinity. (that's just my opinion though).
Source(s): Freedom of thought... There's no hard evidence to support the Bible either. Just for the record. And actually, there is some evidence to support the Book of Mormon. We don't know the exact location of those in the Book of Mormon other than it was the Americas... so it could've been in Latin America for all we know-- and there were definitely ancient civilizations there. Also, google Haplogroup X... that is another evidence that the BOM is true. EDIT: Yes, yes your article did state some truth. We believe the Nephites were wiped off of the face of the planet. However, haplo-group x has also been found in parts of Israel. So, there is the chance some of these indians were descended from Israelis. And, a few years ago scientists ran mitochondrial DNA testing on 108 Mayan remains... 8 of them contained haplogroup x and their DNA couldn't be traced back is Asians. Scientists concluded that these 8 remains were either contaminated, were not Mayan and came from a different place, or that their ancestors' came from a group of people that is now gone. Your article had valid points. However, it does not 100% disprove the BOM. - BubblewrapLv 41 decade ago
What is your question exactly?
I believe Joseph was called to be a prophet yes, but you really didn't ask anything.

I just can't bring myself to believe in someone that was convicted of being a con artist, then was tarred-and-feathered for having "relations" with a 14 year old girl who he was not married to, then was shot in the back for abducting people's daughters and forcing them to marry mormons at gunpoint.
But let me guess...they never told you about that stuff did they?
Also: Brigham Young hired someone to assassinate the President of the United Sates. That man was caught and executed.
Your religious beliefs are your own business, just make sure the people you emulate are worthy of your adoration.

No a book written by the man claiming to be a prophet is no way creditable evidence. Now if he would have put the golden tablets up for scientific examination that would be evidence.
And, by the way, there have been many people that have claimed to see god, or be annoited or chosen by him.

My answer is No.. but
We should really ask his wife...especially what she thought when he had a friend tell her that "god told him to take a second wife" I bet she could tell some stories..
