Who thinks Global Warming is a Hoax?

Global Warming is a hoax. Humanity is not causing the earth to warm up. It may not be even true that the earth is warming up at all.

If global warming is a Hoax, then it's one hell of an elaborate one.

If it's a hoax, then the perpetrators have managed to accomplish the following:

    1) Caused temperature monitoring stations all over the planet to slowly report increasing temperatures

    2) Caused the glacier mass on the planet to start decreasing

    3) Fooled top scientists at NASA and the NOAA

    4) Tricked the National Academies of Sciences from all the major countries in the world into recommending strong actions against global warming by all countries

    5) Controlled the minds and fingers of the 617 top climate scientists (from all over the world) who wrote the IPCC WG1 report

Yeah, this all sounds like something you'd read of some villian in a super-hero comic book doing. So I suppose it probably is a hoax ;-)

Climate change is real. Man-made global warming is a myth.

The Ice ages have come and gone and will come again. It is a natural part of the Earth. Just check out the caveman dioramas at the museum.

Quick question: What kind of SUV did the wooly mammoth drive?

Oh ... and PLEASE do the world a favor and never cite wikipedia.com as a scientific source. Ditto for anything with "yahoo" in the InterNet address. That's like citing sources from MySpace for medical advice.

Ooooh ... I forgot the monitoring station myth. It seems that many monitoring stations have seen gradually increases in area temperatures over the last few decades. Except those in rural areas that have remained rural. Stations that have seen the neighborhood go from rural to suburban to urban, with all that paving and concrete have recorded higher temp. Stations placed on the mountaintops and in remore areas without much new going on have remained close to normal. ... and, of course, hundreds of stations in the Soviet Union have stopped reporting altogether, especially the ones in chilly Siberia. Seems no one wants to man 'em and the Soviets can't afford 'em.

Of course, none of that would have anything to do with this argument, would it Al?

Oh ... and the vast number of the "climatologists" were asked if they believe in climate change and most of them do. When they are asked about man-made global warming the numbers start dropping considerably ... but you won't find that in the notes.

To put it quite simply: living in North America has really skewed our perceptions and beliefs of Global Warming.

If you look you remove the popular media, and only look at the academic world, there is an almost unanimous agreement that global warming is natural to some extent, but it is being aggravated by human activities.

Now, ad in the media who tries to "present a balanced view" but in order to do that they give equal weight to the general consensus as they do to "fringe scientists" - and often if you look at these scientists, their area of expertise has nothing to do with the environment. If you go to Europe (I am thinking particularly of the french paper, Le Monde), where there isn't such a push for "balanced reporting," you don't see any of this fringe junk.

And as a hoax for political action unlikely? Environmental problems are too long term to hold people's attention from start to finish, and often they are so grdual in developing that they are not spectacular enough to warrant coverage by the media, and like it or not, if the media is not informing people about a matter, they aren't very likely to push for change.

Global Warming is true, there are Natural fazes but we are affecting that to a great extent ,with deforestation ,desertification and pollution., especially air pollution.

A few weeks ago one of NASA's top scientists concluded that the Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free within five years, much faster than all previous predictions.

when the north pole is gone , you may have polar bears soon in America ,looking for a home ,

Calculations do not include the accumulative ,speeding up ,factor with time. the increase in water temperature will get faster all the time as well as the melting, when the ice is all gone the deeper cold Ocean currents will stop ,and the drag has gone with it ,also changing the higher warm currents,And only the moon will keep things moving

This will affect coastal climates ,world wide ,almost instantly. All aquatic flora and fauna will be affected, many dying off and others becoming invasive,

And recently In Chiapas ,and Tabasco in Mexico .more then a million people became homeless overnight with water coming up to their roofs ,because of rains from super evaporation from the forests, this had never happened before. Millions of animals died.

In India 3000 people died because of super storms .

.A few years ago in Europe 3500 people, died during a heat wave ,many of them in France .

Right now the average death toll annually is 150.000 due to Global warming

. these figures are already out of date and are expected to double soon.

In Northern China millions of people are running for their lives because regular dust storms so far have buried 900 villages under the sand and the whole of northern China is turning into a dessert.

The Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year all around the edges ,like a slow burning fire shriveling up their neighbors In the Kalahari huge rivers have dried up and thousand of species are gone due to their habitats disappearing .

The biggest changes are invisible at micro biotic levels species are becoming extinct ,others are multiplying ,

This affects the insect populations that follow ,and changes in that ,affect all that follows in the food chains ,

All life is interrelated of both flora and fauna, And since we are on the top of the food chain ,

we are always the last to know.

So Global warming has its toll there are incidents all over the world ,

    However

confusion rules the day ,i am beginning to think that SCIENCE HAS BEEN INVADED WITH POLITICS AND HUMAN EMOTIONS

The truth is being distorted at high levels,

And lies have been weaved in.

Some of the real dangers are being hidden because there are no solutions , Public could panic.and Authorities would loose control .

Besides Corporations have other priorities and changes will cause loss of profits ,this also affects the truths being published

Others facts are exaggerated so that the phenomena can be used to milk the people.

This is further complicated with Arrogance that will not admit that mankind could be guilty, or that Gods could be out of control ,unloving or incompetent

But I do not think we can make a real difference anymore to change the tide.

On a Global scale,Humanity is not co operative enough .

The poor regions have other priorities such as daily survival.

There is a lot we can do about being more responsible with what we got ,

In the first world countries many do not care or are more interested in Global Control than Global Warming.

First everyone needs to learn the definition of what global warming actually is. when the scientists say the earths average global temperature is 32.7 degrees Fahrenheit that means the average of everywhere in the world derived from the recorded temp 365 days a year. that's where the 33 degree tipping point number comes from.

OK that's everywhere in the entire world from the north pole to the beaches of Hawaii in January and July. so yes it's 10 below today, its winter you will still need your winter coat, it's just not getting quit as cold as it needs to be for quit as long as it needs to be to build ice thick enough to make it through the summer. I've personally seen the glaciers on Greenland and yes they are melting fast

i took my boat into a bay that 15 years ago was a glacier. and I hiked glacier national park in Wyoming and where the glaciers were in a picture from the 40's was just a soggy mudhole.

like Dana said it has nothing to do with solar activity and humans emit way more co2 than volcanos

it is a hoax if you call global warming a unnatural condition

    http://www.globalwarmingart.com/wiki/Image:65_Myr_...

if the planet has spent 95% of the cenoioz period (age of mammals)over 5 to 10 degrees warmer.

and we have been in a glacial or interglacial part of a ice age for only the last 3 million years of that.

we are now in global rewarming.

Global Warming all together is not a hoax. I believe that the Earth is going through a natural cycle, but human beings are certainly 'contributing' to it. I think it is safe to say that because of humanity's natural ability to mess things up, we are in deep. Even if the whole thing is a conspiracy, we need to be more conscious of the pollution and other things we are doing to the environment. As humans, it is not our right to cut down trees, put off carbon emissions, abuse animals, etc. We need to be way more careful about what we are doing.

It is a hoax from the far left who wish to use it to promote their politcal adgenda.

Generally speaking, people who haven't studied the science behind global warming and who are prone to believing conspiracy theories think it's a hoax.

There are many basic scientific facts which can only be explained if the current global warming is being caused by an increased greenhouse effect due to carbon dioxide accumulating in the atmosphere from humans burning fossil fuels.

For example, the planet is warming as much or more during the night than day. If the warming were due to the Sun, the planet should warm a lot more during the day when the Sun has influence. Greenhouse gases trap heat all the time, so they warm the planet regardless of time of day. Another example is that the upper atmosphere is cooling because the greenhouse gases trap the heat in the lower atmosphere. If warming were due to the Sun, it would be warming all layers of the atmosphere.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiYUr...

We know it's warming, and we've measured how much:

    http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/science/recenttc_...

Scientists have a good idea how the Sun and the Earth's natural cycles and volcanoes and all those natural effects change the global climate, so they've gone back and checked to see if they could be responsible for the current global warming. What they found is:

Over the past 30 years, all solar effects on the global climate have been in the direction of (slight) cooling, not warming. This is during a very rapid period of global warming.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6290228.stm

    http://www.pubs.royalsoc.ac.uk/media/proceedings_a...

So the Sun certainly isn't a large factor in the current warming. They've also looked at natural cycles, and found that we should be in the middle of a cooling period right now.

"An often-cited 1980 study by Imbrie and Imbrie determined that 'Ignoring anthropogenic and other possible sources of variation acting at frequencies higher than one cycle per 19,000 years, this model predicts that the long-term cooling trend which began some 6,000 years ago will continue for the next 23,000 years.'"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitch_cycle#Th...

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/207...

So it's definitely not the Earth's natural cycles. They looked at volcanoes, and found that

    a) volcanoes cause more global cooling than warming, because the particles they emit block sunlight

    b) humans emit over 150 times more CO2 than volcanoes annually

    http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/Gases/man.html

So it's certainly not due to volcanoes. Then they looked at human greenhouse gas emissions. We know how much atmospheric CO2 concentrations have increased over the past 50 years:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mauna_Loa_Carbo...

And we know from isotope ratios that this increase is due entirely to human emissions from burning fossil fuels. We know how much of a greenhouse effect these gases like carbon dioxide have, and the increase we've seen is enough to have caused almost all of the warming we've seen over the past 30 years (about 80-90%). You can see a model of the various factors over the past century here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Climate_Change_...

This is enough evidence to convince almost all climate scientists that humans are the primary cause of the current global warming.
