Heh, I had the same problem. I used ground clover powder. It's nasty but it's pretty strong. It won't completely take away the pain, but it will numb it a bit. It's sold in the season and spice section in the grocery store. I have heard that the clover oil is better because it's more potent, but I couldn't get a hold of any of that. I hope that helps you. You just rub it directly on the place that hurts. Like I said, it won't stop the pain completely, but it may ebb it down enough for him to be able to function and sleep properly.

You could call the dentist office's emergency service. Explain the problem. they may prescribe a stronger med (i.e. codeine), but as one who's gone thru this too many times -- give him whatever it takes to get him to sleep.

The guy who said Jack Daniels was close to the truth. Pain pills won't help much now; only sleeping will.

Tooth pain is THE WORST! dope him up and put him to bed.

Good luck to both of you.

  • Sounds like an infection to me. Get some anti-biotic, and take the full course. A dentist is expensive, but maybe worth the relief to be gained by an expert.

Could he go to the emergency room or an urgent care for some pain meds or could the dentist prescribe it over the phone.

I agree with aspirin, but not too much. One tablet on the tooth, let it melt. It is nasty and tastes terrible but will help for a few hours . You can repeat it in 4-6 hours. You don't want to do this too often as aspirin thins the blood and can cause bleeding and bruising.
