AM Work outs.?
Lately it seems to be harder and harder to find time to work out in the evenings, or if I have the time I don't have the drive. I was thinking of working out before going to work. Does anybody work out in the morning?
IS there any physical benifits to an AM work out, (like stepped up matoblisim through out the day)?
Any drawbacks besides the call to stay in a warm bed?
What time do you work out?
I commute 45 minutes a day each way, so I leave the house before 7:00 AM. Work is an office job, a lot of on the feet stuff but no heavy lifting. I am working out for general fitness.

First of all, anytime is better then no time. So, if you can only work out in the evening, then go for it. The reason why it is not as healthy, is because you are revving up your energy level, and you will find it hard to sleep. You should exercise at least 2-3 hours before bed time.
The benefits for AM workouts are raising your metabolism, giving you energy, releasing endorphins and starting your day ''on track.'' I find when I work out in the morning I am less likely to stop my Dunkin Donuts, or eat those french fries at lunch. I really don't see any drawbacks, other then staying warm in your bed ;)
I work out 6am.

The answer to your question depends on why you are training.
If you are training for athletic performance, be aware that you need to eat and allow your blood sugar levels to rise before the workout or you wont get the maximum out of the workout.
If you are training for general fitness and/or weight loss, then am exercise is best done on an empty stomach. This is because your blood sugar is lower and by exercising on an empty stomach, you force your body to reach into its fat reserves to fuel the workout. Also, avoid eating for at least an hour after exercising for the maximum fat burning effect.
And you are right, working out in the morning is a good metabolism booster for the rest of the day.

honestly AM workouts are the best and most benificial for you!!! since your body is at its empty stage of carbs, it dosent take aslong to start burning fat, and you have longer for your body to recover(unless you have a very physical job) plus i find that excersise in the morning before work makes me feel better and more energized through out the day too!

Personally I love a morning workout and find that it kick starts my day, wakes the body and brain up.
