Footwear for Egyptian monuments, Cairo, Luxor tour?

I have been told that sandals are not a good option because of sand, dirt, etc. But, it will be warm when we are there. Suggestions for a tourist? Specific brands would be great!!

well i usually wear sandals but sturdy flat ones not light weight. yes the sand does get in sometimes but most of the time i dont have a problem. i find shoes impossible in the heat. If necessary i just stop take them off and empty them. i wear leather flat comfortable ones any no particular make the sort you do up with Velcro. alos carry wet wipes and packet of tissues. very useful when visiting local toilets which have no tap for washing or toilet paper.

There are very few places in Egypt where sandals would be a real problem...but for the best option, take light weight Tennis shoes. Worn with anklets or half-socks, they are quite comfortable (and cool) and can be worn on walking tours and at poolside. Only if you are trekking across the desert will you need anything heavier :)

Incidentally, every city in Egypt abounds in shoe stores (seems to be almost a National fetish) where (in an emergency) you can buy any kind of footwear you need, at reasonable prices. So don't worry too much about it. On one of our stays in Alexandria, a friend bought ELEVEN pair of shoes and sandals to bring home with her.

Cairo is the capital of Egypt and one of the largest towns in Africa and the Middle East and a great place to see; find more with hotelbye . On the Nile stream, Cairo is famous for its record, maintained in the wonderful old Islamic town and Coptic sites in Old Cairo. The Egyptian Museum in the centre of community is crucial see, with its numerous Ancient Egyptian artefacts since no trip to Cairo would be complete with out a trip to the Giza Pyramids, and to the nearby Saqqara Pyramid Complex. In Cairo you can see: The Pyramid of Cheops (also called the Great Pyramid or Pyramid of Khufu), the biggest chart of the Giza class, and their interior of slim articles can be explored, though there is not much to see, except an ordinary tomb step with an empty sarcophagus. Immediately behind the Great Pyramid may be the Solar Ship Museum, which shows among the ceremonial solar barques unearthed in the area that's been meticulously restored to its original glory. More south on the plateau may be the Pyramid of Chephren (also known as the Pyramid of Khefre), which includes an interior canal area that may be entered.

sandals with soft flexible bottoms are the best.

you will walk a lot , and you need to be comfortable .

shoes are impossible bec of the heat.

have wet tissue paper to cean your feet.

or wear socks to keep sand out and keep your feet clean.

choose whatever makes you feel comfortable .

yes, public toilets may not provide toilet paper , so be prepared for that.

no brand of shoes is recommended , anything soft and comfortable will do.

I was told the same thing. I brought tennis shoes and did not wear them once. Who cares if your feet are dirty. Would you rather have dirty feet or hot sweaty feet with sand in your shoes? I wore flip flops my whole trip.
