We are in the information era....Long ago there was another era that had the same impact on culture and society worldwide, as the net has. It was called books. They were so rare, and so overly protected. It was sick. The rulers of where ever the book was guarded it like it was some sort of holy grail, telling people it was dangerous to gain the knowledge. Later, organizations were hired to sift through the information and give the public what the ruling body felt was okay for them to have. But some of the people thought this was bull crap and got all the information, and published it. This was dubbed illegal and people were imprisoned for copying the books. But without these people, we wouldn't have the freedom of information that we do have. As a writer, I admit, not buying things hurts the industry, but some things shouldn't be denied by freedom of access...which is the problem. Because when you say you are going to restrict information on the internet, you begin a whole new arena of control. Giving someone that kind off control is like bringing back the Nazi's so they can burn books. And I for one won't let that happen.

Who ever dreamed up this idea has not taken into account the full consequnces of this censorship law.

Because if it becomes the law of the land, I for one (and probably millions like me) will not pay £30 a month to browse the internet, in order to watch or read something that I can find at my local library.

This is in my view sounds like the same old story when America tells Britain to jump the British Goverments reply is to ask how high.

Isn't it about time that this goverment grew a backbone and tackled the ordinary issues that the vast majority of the people in Britain today find far more important like, Murders, Muggers, Rapists, Drugies, Inadequate jail sentences, and a host of other things that I for one find far more important than somebody downloading a film or song off the Internet.

And if you are a Internet Service Provider (ISP) lookout because you are going to loose a lot of customers and money.

It's impossible to ban somebody from going on-line. Those who are determined enough to make illegal downloads will find a way around it. They always do. If one ISP bans you, what's to stop you getting internet acces using another?

In any case, it's about time that the film and TV industry in particular realised that file sharing acts as a very lucrative form of advertising for them. In most cases, it's simply a case of the "try before you buy" principle.

I've spoken to many people who have bought DVDs after seeing a film or TV show from a download, and if they hadn't made the download, they wouldn't even have thought of buying the DVD. If such a ban is enforced to it's full extent with no loopholes, DVD sales will plummet and the film and TV companies will lose massive amounts of money.

The biggest loser`s will be the ISP`s they will lose ££££`s and will have to close down.

The Government should spend MORE time stopping illegal immigration, crime, gun-law, drug-law and put the Army into so-called no-go areas.

Then shut the tunnel except for the exit line, get out of the EU and get this country back to normality.

    Is that asking too much?

Yes, don't be shocked when America adapts this as well. Our country is being sold to the highest bidder by the baby boomer generation. Join the revolution.

Not at all......if someone is using the internet to commit a crime, they should be disconnected....and no matter how you try to spin it, downloading intellectual property of others is a crime
