Do you want to belong to the Seals, Green Berets or Force Recon?
I am a little taken back by the idea that many think that you just join the service and request a special forces role and you get it! Many people actualy think that it is as easy as putting in a request?
Blaster, I understand only to well that it is easy to sign your name and your off and running. BUT being in Force Recon myself I can only say it does seem to me that many people feel they will make it just by signing!!! When in fact they have little or no idea of the heart and commitment it takes.

i keep running in to guys that are joining the Army and haven't shipped yet and when i ask them what they're going to do they say "special forces". the first few times i tried to explain the process but they all argued that they were a "guaranteed SF contract" blah, blah, blah.
now i just nod and give them a good luck.
Edit: Blaster, you may explain it but some aren't apparently getting the difference between a Guaranteed shot and a guaranteed spot. also, why even give a guaranteed shot? when i was in the Marines they came through SOI and MCT and hand picked who got to do the INDOC based on what kind of Marine you turned into AFTER boot not what kind of Civilian you were BEFORE boot. anyway, its all getting pretty soft these days.

I think a lot of the Canadian Forces applicants go in thinking they will do Infantry for awhile and then try that "JTF 2"thing,like it's that easy.I actually had the amusing pleasure of meeting a guy at a Canadian Naval Officer Assessment Board who said he was going to be an Infantry Officer and then go JTF 2,but had a change of heart and went Naval Officer instead;i didn't have the heart to tell him that this was a joke, nice enough guy,but not too bright.People definitely have some strange views on special Forces across the world.

I agree with you 100 percent..Not once in my 4 years was I even given the chance to try out for these units..Its sad that todays youth is tricked into thinking they just need to enlist and then come the e;lite units..what they fail to realize is that once they fail at these elite units they must now serve out their contracts doing something they dont like for four years..and the recruiters are laughing all the way to the promotion board..and whats really stupid are the individuals who think they can go Recon after they do SEALS and so forth...what are they thinking.

actually it is just as easy as putting in a request..there is no guarentee that you will make it but you can get guarenteed in your contract a shot at trying out.. ive signed people in and given them SF school or Ranger school in their contract and then after all of that its on them to pass the class and make it. and i make sure each and every one of them know that and also that they know that primarily its made of infantry. and 3 out of the 4 that i got those schools passed them.
