'Musty' saucepans?

I bought some new, stainless steel, silver saucepans two months ago and two of them have become cloudy. I've tried scrubbing with washing up liquid but when they dry they are still cloudy! Any idea why this happens and how I can fix them?

Update:

Could it be as a result of putting them in the dishwasher? They are suitable for the dishwasher according to the pack.

Vinegar or Kaboom. The white melamine scrubby things but they will scratch the shiny areas. All need to be washed with soap and water afterwards. It is usually a build up of hard water.

Baby oil brings stainless steel up very well, but you wont want the taste of it in the pan. Try rubbing on some vegetable oil (little amounts at a time) then wash and dry as usual.

this is really odd - as if the stainless steel isn't really stainless steel at all. it sounds like the pans might have some aluminum in them.

i think you should email the company, complain, ask them what to do and REALLY ask them why this is happening.

With all the recall lately, i would be worried about what metal was actaully used, and if it was coated with anything.

i started cooking with stainless steel pans in about 1960 or so. i haven't ever seen this in ANY new pans. EXCEPT aluminum ones.

Try Barkeepers Friend if indeed they are stainless the cloudiness will disappear. If they are aluminum, you have to use Kleen King aluminum cleaner to remove the haze.

WD 40 will bring the shine back. Rub it in then wipe out until the smell goes.
