here's more info about chatting the one Y!A sent me when I petitioned:
"asking questions like the following are considered chatting...
*How (are you, old are you, was your day, is everyone today)?
* What are you/What am I (doing, thinking of, wearing, etc.)?
* Guess my/Can you guess my/What's your (name, age, sex, weight,
birthday, location, etc.)?
* Who here likes cake?
We also consider questions that call out other users by name to be chatting.
If the intent is to ask a follow-up question in response to someone else's question and that person is not available via email or IM, post a new question that's open to everyone in the community to answer - there might be someone else who's better equipped to answer it."
come to think of it, all these questions are posted and re-posted in Polls & Surveys and they are never deleted, makes me wonder why!

1/ Do I ever, have received a few myself.
2/ Not 100% accurate as it depends on the way the question is presented. It also depends on the way the answer is given. Ifeel that the Community Guidelines are too loosely written.
3/ YES
4/ Probably (but I am not really sure how to use the 360 page).
edit
4th answer: that's why it is important to always appeal any violation (unless, of course, it is a violation). A successful appeal weakens the reporting powers of those responsible.
edit
5th answer: Polls & Surveys seems to be given more slack than a lot of other forums. I think you a right that if the same question was posted in both forums, the one on YAP would probably be deleted.

1. Do you know that "chatting" is a YA violation?
Yes the Community Guidelines expressly prohibit chatting.
2. Do you know that any question you can ask in YAP can be reported as a violation because of "chatting"?
Yes I suppose any question can be reported under pretext of chatting, but Yahoo will be the judge, not the users. I think it's intentional that there's no rigid definition of "chatting" - for latitude, to allow for flexibility in interpretation.
3. Do you know that because we cannot go into a detailed discussion of anything especially "chatting" in YA, we can discuss it in another Yahoo forum such as in Yahoo 360?
Yes that's one of several avenues.
4. Do you want to discuss this type of violation in my Yahoo 360 Page?
Yes when the need and opportunity present themselves.

I think they consider chatting anything that is geared towards initiating contact with another member or when people use the "add additional details" to "talk" with people responding to their questions. I've only had a couple of those violations. I challenged them because I did nothing more than add details to a question that was asked to be clarified. My response from Yahoo was to read the guidelines. I wrote back telling them I did and I would appreciate them showing me exactly where I violated the guidelines (because following the "letter of the law" so to speak, I did not break any violations) and they never wrote back.

Yes to the first three. I don't know about the last.
Do you know that posting the URL of this category in your answer is "soliciting"?
I actually received a violation because of that.
I answered this question in the Comics and Animation category and it was about Pinoy Big Brother. Since the only answer he got was from me I suggested he should post his question here
answers.yahoo.com/dir/;_ylt=AvIqRcnVgfbcNNNLVqXaR6IS7RR.;_ylv=3?link=list&sid=396545493
(notice it isn't blue. I don't want to get a violation)
I eventually got the best answer. About a month later, I received the violation.

People report violations for the stupidest reasons. If a person just doesn't like the question, or answer, that person reports it. Don't even need a reason. I think the violation policy is wrong. It violates free speech, and allows "ganging up" on others.
If one has several friends here, and that one doesn't like your question or answer, then he or she can get their friends to report the violation even when there is no violation. We, the users, lose

I got 3 violations yesterday. Ha! Just because I thought someone that wanted to sell their blood and plasma was going to buy crack. Or baby formula. Odd.
