R&S: Is "because it's gross" a strong argument against homosexuality?

It's very hard to get a "real" argument against homosexuality.

Saying "It's gross!" is immature.

Invoking the God card brings in religion.

And for those who say it's not natural, point out penguins, dolphins, nematodes, and the FEM-3 gene.

No way. It's a very weak argument.

Something should only be considered wrong if it causes unhappiness. Homosexuality doesn't hurt anyone, it can make people happy. It causes no more unhappiness than heterosexuality. I think that if you're against homosexuality, you also have to be against having any sort of sex for pleasure (as opposed to for reproduction).

Also, it doesn't matter if something is not natural. That doesn't make it wrong. Books, clothes, hospitals and the Internet are not natural - that doesn't make them wrong.

As for religion - well, if you want to believe something without evidence, then it's up to you, but I don't think it's a valid argument. Did God ever give a reason why homosexuality was 'wrong'?

You forgot about this argument for marriage, because that's been working out so well in the hetero communities for the past few hundred years. And the whole "humanity will go extinct" if God wanted us to be gay. Because surely 10% of the population thrown in for control will desimate the whole planet. Either way it's hard to get a solid arguement from anyone who actually has a unique thought. You are right on that one. These types dropping pages of Bible quotes really need to have more original thoughts and ideas.

It's a strong and legitimate argument against homosexuality if you're considering engaging in it yourself. If you find it "gross" you probably shouldn't do it.

But if you're trying to decide whether it's wrong or right for someone else (which you shouldn't be doing anyway - it's none of your damned business), then it's an idiotic argument.

When you stop to think about it, sex is gross, period. With the smells and noises, sweating, etc...

So why not just ban all sex entirely? There's always in-vitro.

Or better yet, let's just allow everyone to enjoy the pleasures found with a special someone in the privacy of one's home. If both parties are consenting adults, where's the harm?

"Gross" is a matter of perception and generally has a good portion of intolerance backing it up.

Homosexuality is natural in many social animals and has both genetic and hormonal causes in humans. So #2 is a blatant statement of ignorance.

As for "God", while people are free to use a religion to base their morality on, it is not good to base the laws of the land on any religion's viewpoints.

None of these arguments are worthwhile or valid.

There is not a natural aversion in every culture to same sex relationships, in fact, before exposure to western culture many to most were quite accepting of it. In Western cultures, the US is by far the most homophobic.

This is a religion board so my argument is religious. God said that homosexual conduct is sin. If we want to go to heaven we have to obey the gospel. You can't keep sinning and repent at the same time.

God loves everybody but he damands that we forsake our sins. If we are sincere in our desire to change the Spirit of God can give help us to overcome any sin.

Heck, most sex is gross if you're not the participant!

Ignoramus: The thought of two men having sex just grosses me out!

Kate: The thought of you having sex with your ugly wife grosses *me* out, but it's still none of my business!

For some folks it is. Not for me though as I have no feeling on the matter since it is not an issue in my life.

Ummm . . . which kind of homosexuality? Guy on guy? Yeah, that's a little gross. But girl on girl is just plain hot!
