Is the food accidentally left in an open freezer about 8 hours safe to eat?
I got some stuff out of the freezer last night for dinner and somehow forgot to close the freezer door. I found it open this morning so I estimate it's been open about 8 hours or so. Is there a rule of thumb to use on how to determine if stuff's safe to eat or not?

It depends if the door was wide open or cracked. Was the food still mostly frozen? I would say if it was completely thawed out-trash it.

was there ice of any kind left in the freezer?...as long as the food was still cold and not room temp , it should be ok...one of my freezers quit working...the food was thawed but still cold...i refroze it and had no problems when i ate it...
