How does a cable card work?

Is it just a flash memory card with the encryption / decryption codes on it and is there a way to make a cable card?

Update:

Is it just a Flash Card?

Update 2:

Could I copy decrypting codes from a Cable Card and save it on a new CF card and use an adapter card or use an older big PCMCI Flash Card and put it in my TV and get encrypted DTV?

Cable cards are similar to a PMCIA board. They contain the information needed by the device they are plugged into to decode the signal based upon the level of service paid for.

As far as making one, from what I've read, the cable companies are going bonkers trying to get the legitimate ones to work. Good luck!
