do female sibe huskies lose a lot of weight after giving birth?

im want to buy a pup and i visited this breeder, the pups looked okay but the "Dam" or mom of the puppies looked too thin. the breeder told me it's normal for dams to lose wieght because they're breastfeeding. is that true? i dont want to buy a pup that might have serious health problems acquired from the dam.

please answer right away!!!

thanks!

Update:

they are registered, yes. so theyhave papers... there were other dogs there, a pug, a boston terrier, and a lemon beagle. they all looked healthy. the breeder takes them ALL to he vet for their shots, and deworms them himself. the husky dam is my only worry.

she looked a little small for a husky, too.

other than the weight issue, she appeared rather happy and normal.

Dogs do lose weight when they are nursing a litter, but if he's feeding her enough, she shouldn't be noticeably skinny. Some huskies are on the "ribby" side, and females will also blow their coats after a litter. Were there other adult dogs on the premises? Were they in good body condition? Did you ask what type of food was fed,and if the mother had been vet checked and wormed? Be honest with the breeder and tell him of your concerns about the mother.Tell him you would really like a pup,but would like to have a certificate from his vet stating that both mother and pups are healthy and that the pups have been wormed and given one set of shots.A responsible breeder will not object.

Edit: If the other dogs on the premises looked healthy, and the man has vet certificates for the mom and pups, then she's probably OK, just one of those huskies that has a lighter build. She should put the weight back on as the pups are weaned.

Yes it's normal for any breed of dog or cat. Although they gain weight during pregnancy most of it is the pups and the amniotic fluid! Some b itches don't eat a lot when they are recovering from the birth and during early feeding. Even when they do most of their nutrition goes into 'feeding' the pups and a big litter can really take a lot of weight off poor Mum. They don't look at their best again for several weeks!

As long as the breeder is a good one and both Dam and Sire were health tested before mating, you shouldn't worry. The other dogs were healthy and if she was happy and looked alright I'd say she's Fine too.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

That's perfectly normal. The dams look horrible after giving birth, but are soon back to normal. They loose tons of weight nursing their pups. Especially since husky litters are big. It's not something you need to worry about in one of your pups. Good luck with your new pup!

Every body is different. Breastfeeding makes me so ravenously hungry that I've actually gained weight. And if I try to eat less, I lose my milk. I imagine that for as long as you are taking in fewer calories than you are spending, you will continue to lose weight. Unless you are me.

Are you actually hungry, or just being money grabbing? Your stomach is only the size of a fist so it takes just a few food to fill it in a relaxed manner. Assess how you feel right after eating. If you feel packed, bloated or tired, you are either eating in the wrong time or consuming excessive.

Warm side up please. Two eggs for breakfast is superior to a bagel on the subject of managing your weight, says a study from the International Journal of Obesity.
