What computer certs to get after A+?
Got my A+ few years back. Thinking of getting N+ sometime. What are other ones that you need for the IT field.

If you've never worked in IT, this is my suggestion. Go ahead and get the Network+. After that, look into the MCDST (Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician). That should help prepare your for the desktop support position you'll probably get for your first job. I'd put off any Cisco training for now. No one is going to hire you and immediately turn you loose on their routers and firewalls. I think at that point, you should seek employment. If you want to eventually get into network administration rather than desktop support, then start with the client operating system exam for the Microsoft MCSE track, such as 70-620. The nice part about pursuing additional certs once you're working is that your employer will often pay the cost of exam prep materials, exams, etc. My employer even pays a bonus for passed exams. So, if possible, get your additional certs on their dime.

It depends on what you want your focus to be. If you are more interested in programming, then decide if you want to go the Microsoft route or another route. Microsoft has many developer certs, they used to have one called MCSD, that has probably been replaced with another one, but something like that is probably what you would want. If you want to go into networking / administration then something like MCSE would be a better choice. Also don't forget about Cisco CCNA / CCNP, CCVP. There are so many MCSEs out there, that cert is kind of diluted. If you can get another cert such as a VMware cert or a a Cisco Voice cert, they may put you ahead. Certifications really only get you to an interview. If you can go into the interview and show them that you know what you're doing, they don't really matter so much. Also, if you are still in high school, I would recommend that you wait until you are almost done with college to spend money on certifications, as the ones you get now will be outdated in 4-5 years when you graduate from college so their usefulness will be diminished.

I can't remember the exact title, but the Microsoft Desktop Technician or Administrator (something like that) is something to have also. It will show that you're proficient in resolving issues with Windows Desktop and it's applications.
I'm working studying for that one myself.
