No. In my PD we have a massive motor pool and the cars get assigned based on average mileage driven. The guys in our high class areas get the same cars driven by our ghetto cops.

If you mean small communities where its only the rich, then yes. They drive newer cars.

The cruiser may be outfitted with nicer equipment and be a newer model, but for the most part the standard police car is the Crown Vic or the dodge charger.

As for personal cars, it is all up to the spending habits of the officer, some nicer departments pay more and officers can afford moderately priced cars.

It varies on who, how long and how good. Most have a decent salary. I know a lot of cops that live in bad areas though, because it's closer to the police station they actually work at. You can live in a nice place/are but like I said it varies. I do believe that they have hott rides though. If they can't get a nice enough home, I'm sure they get at least a very hott car. That's what I am sure of anyways.

Source(s): best friends dad, Jeff is a retired cop. Worked for 36 years as a cop and became the leading cop. Lives in a beautiful newly remodeled home (they has lived there since he became a cop) that is only 3 blocks from the beach and has 2 decent cars that they use and collects old fashioned cars (about 3-4). They can have nice homes and cars, it all depends.

Actually, it doesnt have to do with the area of the city but the actual city. For example, Floydada Texas (population of about 3500) recently had their entire fleet updated to 2007 model picups and cars. That is because wind farms and natural gas wells were recently put in the county. Natural resources are great at bringing tax dollars to the city and in turn they get nicer stuff. By the way, the average income in Floydada is only about $45,000.

I think so...I thnk it depends on how much $ the state has. If they have a lot of money than they would probably buy the officers nicer cars.

No cops in bad areas get better cars for protection and chases.

Cops actually make decent money and have great retirement and pension plans.

But no, cops in Beverly Hills dont roll around in Lamorghini's.
