Do you find it annoying when people say..?

yeah, especially if you don't want to agree to anything...it's just a way of avoiding a conflict of opinions...and you know what???? I have never liked that saying!

Some people say that because no matter how much or how long they argue, they will never agree with each other so one of them ends up saying "Let's just agree to disagree". It has nothing to do with being high and mighty. It just means they want to stop arguing right there and then, especially if the argument is based on differing opinions.

Your issue is peacemakers in general, not the phrase itself.

You believe that people should be able to fight and let it out right then and there. What you should realize is that people say this kind of thing because fighting makes a lot of people uncomfortable.

These people have just as much right to express their uncomfortableness as the fighters have to express their disagreement.

Well, at times people feel the need to be peacemakers and depending on the situation it can be good.

I think it is hard to say it is annoying to me without knowing about the specific situation.

However, there are certain people I know, they are never honest when they say that.

I think for me it comes down to whether people are truthful or not.

I don't see it the way you see it, because I think it's just a nicer way of saying "I don't agree with you, I think you're an idiot, this will go no where since neither of us will budge on our view or opinion", etc instead of being high and mighty.

So I guess we'll have to agree to disagree ;-)

It's only annoying because it's oversaid, but I think in principle it's the best resolution to certain things that just can't be settled. Especially in cases where it's just a matter of opinion, then it's best to just AGREE TO DISAGREE!

No,in fact l think it speakes for itself.lt saves arguments with other people and at the same time you do not totally feel that you have lost the argument.So on this one l think 'lets just agree to disagree.'

I think that most people say that because either they are tired of the arguement and see that the two sides will never agree, or they know that they are beat and don't want to admit it. I guess I must not get in disagreements a lot cuz it really doesn't bother me too much.

It's not saying they agree to agree, they're saying "ok we've disagreed, neither one of us is going to persuade the other to our point of view so let's just leave it here" There is a point when you're just disagreeing for the sake of it - you might as well let it go

wow ummm i never looked at it like this but when people say this it means that they are done fighting and they want to make peace on a topic nomatter were they stand in that topic

but seriously try not to over think things when people say this it means they give up they are not trying to be all high and mighty they just give up

i cant say that i find it annoying, but i look at it this way...

"i cant change your mind and u cant change mine, SO...lets agree to disagree and spend more time doing something productive instead of wasting time on a stupid arguement.
