Do you think Egypt and Jordan would take back Gaza and the West Bank if Israel asked them to?

Pretending for a moment that East Jerusalem and the settlements are not a factor do you think they would do it?

Or is it too late to turn back the clock?

Also do you think the Palestinians would object?

It would be an act of hypocrisy if Jordan and Egypt accept the West Bank and Gaza from Israel. I mean if they support the establishment of the State of Palestine, they won't take those territories as their own even though Israel asked them to.

Nikki is right. Not Jordan, but Egypt yes -but only tentatively, until the Gaza could get up and running governmentally. They would in the long term agree to both a security alliance and to a free trade agreement. This illustrates how different the situations of "the two Palestines" are - the west bank, dominated by occupiers, abandoned by Jordan - the Gaza - free of occupation ( for now) and enjoying increasing sympathy of the Egyptian people,to which must respond or he risks a weakening base of support. Yesterday the Egyptian ambassador to the U.N> bluntly told the Secretary General Egypt will not tolerate a humanitarian disaster in Gaza, they will keep the Rafah crossing open, period. An immediate declaration by an interim government sounds ideal to me.

Jordan,no. Egypt yes. However only tentatively; they would expect the Palestinians of the Gaza to develop their own government. Egypt would agree to a reciprocal arrangement with the jews wherein Egypt would provide protection for the Gaza Palestinians but also assume responsibility for policing the Gaza of non-defensive weaponry. Your idea is viable - for the Gaza. Very much so. But not for the west bank. At least not anytime soon. But it would be in the zionist government's interests NOT to have 1.5 million very angry Gaza Palestinians under their heel, within their borders and dependent on them for juice.

It did not work in the past Gaza and west bank are part of Palestine/Israel. Thank God for the Israeli occupation which united Palestine and the Palestinians once again.

No. The Islamic radicalization of these areas and the poverty (especially in Gaza) would put a strain on Egypt and Jordan if they were to control these areas. Arab countries governed by more moderate-secular leaders would risk destabilization.

The majority of Palestinians would likely not object to Jordanian rule in the West Bank, as this would politically link the WB with huge Palestinian population centers in Jordan. This would offer major opportunities for them in the future, vis-a-vis Jordan. This isn't what the Hashemite Kingdom wants and they already renounced any claim or responsibility for the West Bank, but desire to retain and increase control and influence of the Islamic Holy Sites in Jerusalem.

By receiving Gaza, Egypt would also be faced with controlling Hamas against Israel, as attacks from Egyptian territory would be an act of war. This is not an attractive scenario for Egypt.

Egypt would not take Gaza, Israel offered it to them when they gave them the Sinai and they said no. When Egypt ruled Gaza they never gave Gazans citizenship.

Jordan probably wouldnt after what Palestinians did to Jordan in the late 70s and 80s.

well hello, i am egyptian and why would we want to take gaza or the west bank...they dont belong to us they belong to palastine...egypt ends till saini gaza and the west bank were never ours

but one day we will open our borders and all the arab land will be united as they were once before that's the only case in which egypt will have gaza and the west bank simply because it will be no longer egypt , no longer palastine, no longer saudi arabia....etc till allthe arab land it'll be the united arabian land....just then there'll be no israel (no offense) and no one will be able to tell us no and we will be the greatest power just as we used to be

    thanks

I agree with Nikki. Dalia,if it happened at all it would be a way out of the present crisis and avoid the as-it-stands forthcoming Big Crunch. It would be temporary,I'm sure. Egypt will consider temporary receivership - but they are NOT going to have a problem with an independent Gaza.

Of course the Palestinians would object, why give part of Palestine, yet again, away to another country. Palestine is not theirs to give in the first place. I think Palestine should give Israel to Russia, as they are mostly Russian to begin with. Do you think Israel would object? Is it too late to turn back the clock back to reality and not some fictitious claim to land ownership?

Egypt was offered the Gaza Strip under the Camp David agreement but politely refused. Jordan has never indicated it wanted the West Bank back only a few acres below the Dead Sea.
