What is the name for the letters that one can put behind their name?

For Example: PHD, or MD. I know what they mean but what are the actual letters called?

    They're called 'Titles'. They signify positions and degrees

    They are titles which show qualifications that have been bestowed or earned. Such as academic, medical, scientific degrees.

    PhD is Doctor of Philosophy

    BsC is Batchelor of Science

    BA is Batchelor of Arts

    There are many more.

    Title.

    Jr. or Sr. or III would be a suffix.
