Remove the 512mb stick, and get a 2x1GB kit of RAM for it, or a 2x2GB kit for 4 gigs. Make sure whatever you get is dual-channel.

I would install the most that your mother board can support and that you can afford. If your computer is fairly recent you may be able have up to 8GB of RAM, but 2 to 4 GB should do you fine.

The source listed below is an article that will tell you everything you need to know about RAM

i would use 2 gb first of all 1 gb you notice the difference i installed 1 gb more and didnt notice that much difference make sure both ram are the same as it will work to the slowest if you install two get the best you can afford

I recommend 2 gigs for gaming--get the highest mhz ram your motherboard will support (for ddr2-800 mhz). Crucial.com will let you know what is compatable for your motherboard. All the major brands are in my mind equally good. Newegg is a very good place to buy ram--Pricewatch.com is also.

The more RAM the better. You can never have too much.
