Dunno, what would you like it to be?
I do like it though with lashings of butter.

I am so with you on this one! Who wants a slab of malt loaf instead of something chocolatee and sensational? Malt loaf is a rich yeast bread dough enriched with malt extract and black treacle. Often has raisins added before being baked in a loaf tin. It was invented by Ron Pugh whilst working for Warburtons Love the sound of the Wikipedia game - definately going to be giving that a go!

Well I wouldn't want to make a sandwich out of it but I'd class it more as a bread than a cake. I'm not a big eater of the stuff.

To me if it's called a loaf it's definitely bread. Yes I quite like it with good butter but haven't had it for ages.

I love it - I don't think it's either cake or bread though.
Soreen is just a stodgy lump and don't half give you wind ;)
edit - colgirl, my Mum used to make one like that - fruit soaked in tea overnight - she called it her All Bran loaf. Absolutely delicious!

I only buy the Weight Watchers Malt Loaf. It is not so sweet, and less calories.

I'm still in my 20's, far too young to be enjoying a bit of Fruit Loaf

I like it - my mum used to make her version of it years ago and it was better than the shop bought variety. You soaked the dried fruit in cold tea overnight before adding the rest of the ingredients. It was delicious.

Actually...it is bread.
The easy way to categorise breads and cakes is this.
If it is stale and goes soft...it is a cake. If it goes hard...it is bread.
