Are Mormons Christian?

Why or why not?

Update:

Are they "Born Again" as in asking Jesus to live inside of them?

Update 2:

If I understand what has been posted, Mormons do not pray the sinner's prayer. They believe that baptism and works will save them.

Does that mean that they will spend eternity in the celestial heaven or a lesser heaven?

Mormonism is not Christianity. The Jesus of the Bible, the true Jesus, is God Himself.

Mormons reject this truth, therefore they have a different "jesus" that doesn't exist.

Mormonism teaches a works plan to be saved, but the Bible says that works can never save. In addition, Mormonism has the "book of Mormon", but the Bible says that only the Bible is the Word of God.

It should be obvious that Mormonism is a cult.

    Mormonism is not Christianity.

The one that rejects the truth about Jesus being God is not a Christian, no matter what they call themselves.

The Bible is the only authority on all matters. Labels and names of groups don't determine truth. The Bible says what is true.

The Bible makes how to go to heaven clear and easy. The only way to be saved and go to heaven and not the eternal lake of fire is by believing in this life that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you are saved!

I would have to vote no. Mormons are decieved and they are subject to religious spirits. They teach that "works" are what get you into Heaven.

A belief in "Jesus" is not enough, nor is the act of water baptism going to get you saved.

Faith in Jesus alone to save you from your sins. You have to pray the sinners prayer and ask Jesus to live inside you. That is what it means to be born again.

Even the Moslems believe in Jesus, yet they only recognize Him as a prophet and not the sin-sacrifice of the world? Are Moslems Christian because they believe Jesus exists? By no means.

So it is with Mormons. Those that I have heard come out of the church itself are the ones that testify they were not saved, but now they are.

The problem with Mormonism, is that it uses the same verbiage as the Christian faith (not those that are members of some denomination, but those that have experienced the saving grace of Jesus). After salvation, the new Christian is charged with spreading the gospel and sinning no more. These "works" earn you eternal rewards, not salvation.

Source(s): It is only faith in Jesus' death and resurrection that can save us. If you understand that you are a sinner and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ, here is a sinner's prayer you can pray to God: "God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for the forgiveness of my sins. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!" It is that easy. edit: I thought the Book of Mormon teaches Jesus was born in Jerusalem Alma 7:10 And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God.

Mormons are not Christians anymore than JW's are "Christian". Even the demons in Hell believe in Jesus, that He is the Son of God and was raised from the Dead.

As posted above, you have to pray the Sinner's prayer to be saved.

If you do not pray it, you are not Christian - no matter how righteous you are.

We are saved by Grace -- not works.

If you put your faith in works, you will be disappointed. Mormons distort the gospel and put their faith in their works and baptism (which is not salvation through the sinner's prayer). If I am proven wrong, I will admit it.

But I will not defend a faith that destines millions of trusting people to Hell.

What does Jesus say about those that trust in their works:

Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Source(s): Isa 64:6 --- But we are all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Rom 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Rom 3:27 Where [is] boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Rom 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law [(or works [my words])] Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God Forbid Rom 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, Rom 11:6 And if by grace, then [is it] no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if [it be] of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Mormons are Christians. The believed all are saved through grace, however, salvation and life eternal (Life with God) comes through obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Mormon definition of born again can be found here:

    http://scriptures.lds.org/en/gs/b/37

"To have the Spirit of the Lord cause a mighty change in a person’s heart so that he has no more desire to do evil, but rather desires to seek the things of God."

All Christian denominations, including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, believe in Jesus. Christian denominations have slightly different ideas of what it takes to be saved, i.e. grace (from belief in Jesus) and/or baptism and other works.

The true followers of Jesus who will be saved try to live by his example and follow his teachings and direction from the New Testament. This includes baptism and other works.

Christianity started in the first century beginning in Acts chapter 2, anything that came after this is not form God it is from Satan.

Matt. 15:13,14 Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

Matt. 15:8,9 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men.

1 Cor. 1:10 Now i beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined(united) together in the same mind and in the same judgment.Verse 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

    There are no??????-Christan's.

I don't know the true answer, but I have always been led to believe they're not...maybe something to do with they don't baptize with the Trinity. A friend of mine couldn't go to our friend's baby's baptism because she wasn't Mormon. They literally told her that as to why she couldn't come.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormonism) is a beautiful Christian religion. Because Mormons believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ and consider Him to be the way to salvation, they are clearly a Christian denomination. It is true that they are not an orthodox denomination (they are neither Protestant, Catholic, nor Eastern Orthodox), because they don't accept the post-New Testament creeds, but their Christ-centered theology clearly qualifies them for the Christian label.

Most objective scholars agree that Mormons are Christian. Consider this quote from an academic book entitled “Anthology of World Scriptures” by Robert E. Van Voorst.

“…the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints…see themselves as Christian, and most experts in comparative religions would view this labeling as basically correct. That they…accept the Christian Bible as their first cannon is a good indicator of this. Moreover, “outsiders” to [Christianity], such as Buddhists, would almost certainly recognize them as belonging to the stream of Christian tradition.”

Likewise, a recent poll showed that the majority of Americans believe that Mormons are Christians.

You should be extremely careful when trying to learn about Mormons from others. There are many who hate the Mormons and spread lies, distortions, and conspiracy theories about them. Others think they understand Mormon doctrine because of "what they've heard," but are actually misinformed.

Because Mormons are Christian, we believe in most of the things that Christians believe, including:

    1) Christ is divine and salvation comes only through Him.

    2) The Bible is the word of God.

    3) Men ought to love one another.

Mormons are a unique branch of Christianity, however. We are neither Catholic nor Protestant, so naturally we have some different beliefs. Most of the differences are minor. One significant difference has to do with the authority to act in God's name. Mormons believe that soon after the death of Christ and His apostles, the early Christian Church was greatly influenced by Greek and Roman philosophies and political pressures. Despite the efforts of many good men and women, the true Church of Christ was eventually lost because of these outside pressures and internal, man-made changes. Mormons believe that God reestablished the original Church of Christ in 1820 through a man named Joseph Smith.

What makes someone "Christian" depends on whom you are speaking to and what definition has weight in the mind of that person.

If you are speaking to people who are convinced that Jesus is God, then being "Christian" requires belief is the deity of Christ and these will tell you that any who do not believe that Jesus is himself God is not "Christian"

To some who are Trinitarian then you must believe that Jesus is part of a triune godhead to be considered "Christian".

Some are convinced that all you have to do to be “Christian” is “Confess Jesus as your saviour” - and that is it! You are good to go!

If you are speaking from a purely biblical standpoint, then being Christian means living by and following the teachings and commands of Jesus to the best of our imperfect ability- It means doing God's will and those who fail to do so, whether they call themselves Chrstian or not will find themselves without Christ's favor (Mt 7:21-23).

Doing as Jesus commanded involves learning and then helping others to learn how to live by the things he taught and commanded and thus includes preaching and teaching others to observe all the things that Jesus commanded. (Mt 28:19,20)

Like people who have developed their own "Christian" doctrines following the death of Jesus and his apostles, Mormons are every bit as "Christian" as any other. And to their credit, they take preaching seriously enough to send their young on a two year Mission to do so... and then rarely ever again, but I have yet to meet one (and I say this having grown up in a Mormon family) who is able to teach what or why they believe as they do. They ask for blind faith- ("Just pray about it and ask God if it is true") which is something that neither Jesus nor his apostles ever did. (John 17:3)

Jesus and his apostles reasoned and taught from scripture and helped people to see what the truth was using scripture. (Acts 17:2-4;10-12)

Jesus told his followers to "preach the good news of the Kingdom" and that this preaching would be done by all of his true followers until the end. He also said that the "good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations and then the end will come" (Mt 24:14)

... As far as I am aware, there is only one group that identifies themselves as "Christian" who are:

    a) Preaching specifically "the good news of God's kingdom" and teaching people from the bible what that means, why it is good news, and how to live in harmony with what Jesus did and taught; (Mt 4:23; 9:35; 24:14; Mk 1:14,15; Lu 4:43)

    b) Who all take part in that preaching and teaching work and;

    c) Are doing it the same way that Jesus and his apostles did it. (Acts 5:42; 20:20; 2Tim 4;2; ) And;

    d) Who are preaching in the “entire inhabited earth” (236 lands to be exact.)

    e) Who stick to the teachings of the bible and who reject the dogmas created humans in the 4th century or the doctrines of a book that blatantly plagiarizes the bible (chapter and verse number by chapter and verse number, punctuation and even translational errors- I kid you not).

    f) who are persecuted and lied about in the same ways and for the same reasons that Jesus and his apostles were (Mt 5:10-12; John 15:20,21)

But as for Mormons, they are as entitled to call themselves "Christian" as any other group that has established it's own form of "Christianity"... From a biblical standpoint, and thus from the standpoint of God, only those who are doing their best to live by the biblical teachings of Jesus and to do as he commanded are truly "Christian".

It all boils down to which opinion you want to lend the most weight.

The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints is a Christian religion because we believe in Jesus Christ! Notice the name of the church!

We are not Christians in the sense that we do not follow the precepts of many mainstream Churches (the Trinity, infant baptism, lack of revelation etc)

We are Christian in the sense that we are followers of Christ and try to apply his teachings to our everyday life. We are baptized in His name and perform Sacrament every Sunday in rememberance of Him.

Some of the arguments people bring up actually exclude Jesus himself from being labelled Christian.
