Can we find a better candidate than Senator Obama in mending the fences between the two major parties?

It was interesting that I read an article on Senator Obama from May 31, 2004 in The NewYorker.

Kirk Dillard, a leading Republican senator from the Chicago suburbs, looked chagrined when I asked him about Obama. “I knew from the day he walked into this chamber that he was destined for great things,” he said. “In Republican circles, we’ve always feared that Barack would become a rock star of American politics.” Still, Dillard was gracious. “Obama is an extraordinary man,” he said. “His intellect, his charisma. He’s to the left of me on gun control, abortion. But he can really work with Republicans.” Dillard and Obama have co-sponsored many bills.

This is what drew me to the man from the beginning. We need to stop the us vs them politics and start learning to work together again to make this country a better place to live and work.

Clinton is too polarizing, she won't help. Just make things worse.

Now you are assuming fences need mending between each party. That is what you see from the media. What if the media told you the parties get along just fine and what we report is how they want it to appear.

Or the agenda groups that control the government and politicians are just so many and so varied they do not allow anything to get accomplished.

    Possible isn't it?

Not sure how he can mend fences when there is no desire among the parties of have mended fences. The only people who see Obama as a uniter are those who want him to be President. All I see is someone who will raise taxes and implement expensive govt programs that I will have to pay for and get no benefit from

A few months ago, I would have said McCain, but now that he's catering to the conservatives and edging away from moderate policy making, I must say Obama is our only hope.

Can anybody name any specific issue which Obama has offered as an olive branch to conservatives?

How can he claim to be willing to 'reach across the aisle' if he has nothing to offer the other side?

Go take these ridiculous and childish assertions to the fairy tale forum. The only mending he'll do is if it is on his terms. He is nothing more than a consummate liar. It is evidenced by his background, his speeches and his political philosophy. One would have to be extremely stupid or naive to believe that "mending" crap.

Yes, I think we can. Obama is one of the most liberal Senators and to bring any sort of unity we need someone that's more middle of the road.

McCain gets along very well with Lieberman and is viewed as a "liberal" Republican.

Obama is the most liberal senator in congress. He preaches nothing but platitudes. Can someone name specific positions of his? If America knew who Obama was -- the most liberal senator in congress -- the Obama bubble will burst.
