Do you believe that "all knowing" is the same as "all controlling?"?

I've noticed a few times that people equate omniscience with control. They claim that if God is truly omniscient, then we have no choice about our lives. What do you think? Is knowing everything the same as controlling everything?

Absolutely not.. they are very very different. God knows everything, but He never controls us. The Holy Spirit leads us, guides us, councils us, but it is our decision if we hear and obey or not. Control means you leave no choice. God always give us free choice. Its most precious. IF He made us serve Him and love Him, it would be love , would it ?

God doesnt want a bunch of mindless robots serving Him cuz they have to. HE wants us to choose to serve Him and love Him , becaue HE loves us and we love HIm bacl.

IT doesnt even make sense from even a natural standpoint, let alone a spiritual one.

If I know all there is about algebra, can I force you to know it all?

    No.

Same with God, HE knows and He wants us to know. But He sure isnt even gonna try and force it. We will only know if we want to know. Praise GOd for the precious gift of CHOICE>

It is not the same. The being knows all (ie. all of the possible outcomes of our past, present and future choices), but is not in control of which one we choose. The keyword is outcomes or plural term, it becomes a final single outcome only after we made our choices.

Mankind's free will and God's omniscience are independent of one another. Omniscience means "all-knowing" not "all controlling". While God already has knowledge of what will occur in the world, and what people will do, that does not mean that everyone is predetermined to do certain things.

You're confusing omniscience and mankind's free will with the concept of predestination.

God's omniscience gives him the ability to know what we will do before we do it. Our free will determines our actions.

Omniscience means "being everywhere, perceiving everything instantly". Has NOTHING whatsoever to do with control. It's a state of Is-ness.

Sounds like; you feel you have no choice/control in your life.

NO, all knowing is not the same as all controling. Although knowledge is known to be a source of power.

This Power could be used for control but in the righteous sense it is not.

It's called Calvinism, and it's wrong. God granted man free will, and then gave him dominion over the earth. Gen 1:26-28

Not at all. The two words are not the exact same thing and we all should know that. Perhaps to them who are non believers that's what its all about. To those of us who know, its quite obvious its not the same.

  • No. Our actions ar our choice; God may know what our choice will be before we do though currently.

"All knowing" is just another faulty idea from old christians.

The concept, called omnipotence, is Prima facie absurd.
