Melissa and Doug toys are great. Look them up they are made of wood and hold up great! They are also very educational my daughter has been playing with them since she was one and loves them she has many diffrent sets. They are a great keep sake because they hold up so well your God son can save them for his kids.

How about you buy something that he needs. Instead of toys. Like he might need clothes or something. A toy u can get him is a tonka truck or car. They have these cars @ walmart. They are from the movie cars and they are soft and a toy he can throw and wont break. They are also from the ages 1 and up. Or get something he can push around and then ride when hes big enough. Get a play phone he can talk on. There is all kinds of toys. Or if she dont have a piggy bank for him.

I dont think a 1 year old is going to be disappointed no matter what type of toy you get him, but i would make sure it was age-appropriate. Most toys will have an age range listed on it. People have gotten toys for my daughter when she was younger that were so not right for her age. I'd suggest going to fisherprice.com or toysrus.com and just browse through the toy section by age range...GOOD LUCK.

My son loves the Leap Frog See and Learn Piano. It has buttons to push and play music and various settings and a mirror on the front he likes to look in. Also the Little Tike's, Tike's Blvd toy, it's a stop light with lights that he can push and they make sounds and light up, it also comes with a little car a train. My little loves them. Also board books are great too, my son got a couple on his 1st birthday and loved them.

when my daughter turned 1 she absolutely loved...... the bags and paper that the cool toys came in.. thats right... she would rather play with the paper than the toy lol.. i was so disappointed cuz i got her some really cool stuff and she wasnt at all interested in anything for a couple of months. anything that he can play in... like an indoor tent or ball pit would be great... she liked to play in the boxes and cover herself with tissue paper so the ball tent is a great thing to get lol.. there are also tons of ride on toys that are for 12 months + but my daughter couldnt actually ride on any of them till she was about 16 months old cuz her legs were too short. they also love to dance so some cd's with silly songs are great.. i love the "little people silly songs" cd's they are kid appropriate.. i got some random childrens cd at walmart and some of the songs were talking about this cat that they couldnt kill! it was awful! but the "little people silly songs" cds are great and its also a great way to burn out some energy before naptime.. so mommy will love it to! good luck to you!

no matter how nice, shiny, colorful, educational etc. a toy is or how many they have, they're attention span is so short (seconds, to minutes) that there's no toy outhere that would keep them interested, busy for long (at this age).

I've got my 16 mos baby the mega bloks, only when I get on the floor with her and play she would play (actually take my construction apart),

she loves balls (more recently i've got the pit balls-100 balls for $9.99 at Walmart dumped them in a large storage container and let her "swim" in it),

she likes books, she's always chasing me around with a book, saying "boo, boo", I sit and tap on the floor, calling her "books, books" and she comes and sits with me and we read together, I take her finger and point as I'm reading (colors, shapes, numbers)

what I've noticed though is one toy that she's been constantly (every day) played with was the Fisher-Price Big Discovery Table ever since I bought it 5 months ago

    http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/602-0743138-3...

other than that, pots and pans, empty containers with lids (takes them off), boxes...

for that reason I refrained myself from spending a fortune on baby toys, especially because she goes to daycare full-time.

    A savings bond.

Babies and kids these days have so much. Savings bonds or a piggy bank would let him save for the future.

I have 2 kids and I couldn't tell you what they got for their first birthdays (except I put it in their baby books) or who bought it for them...but I remember who got my child their piggy banks and savings bonds.
