Best sparring gear for your feet?

What kind of sparring shoes should I buy? I have used the foam shoes before and found those to be hard to move in without feeling like I was going to twist my ankle. What do you prefer and why?

I prefer cloth shin/instep pads by the company called "Tiger claw". The cloth shin/instep pads fit really snug but arent too bulk. I love them! After a year or so they can stretch out and get worn out, but they are fairly cheap. I couldnt imagine training without them.

p.s.- These can be found in alot of sports stores as well. Be sure to get the right size.

It depends. Sometimes we have no gear sometimes we do, it's all about the school and the teacher. Currently I am required to wear everything but chest for sparring. Normally I would be suspicious of this if it wasn't that the only reason we have all that gear on is so we can hit harder without being sued. If you want less gear for fighting, then a cup and mouth piece are really the only required things. After that I say get head, then foot or gloves depending on style. If you are fighting for sport and not to harm, then gear is fine, but you should be able to fight just as well without the gear on if you want to go for self defense. Personally I hate the gloves the most, they restrict my movement and technique too much.

I like the kind that Randy S brought up.

But for more hard contact sparring, I'd prefer these.

It's got much better padding, but secures itself to your leg in the same manner. That 'sleeve' style is very convenient, as it fits like a glove and is less of a hassle than straps.

There are, of course, cheaper variations of this on combatsports.com. I'll keep browsing and if I find one, I'll post it up.

    EDIT:

these are practically the same, but considerably cheaper. http://www.combatsports.com/detail.aspx?ID=23832
