Truth about Mormons...?

I have always been curious...why do people on this site spend hours trying to tell other people what they believe. I think those people know what they believe. If you don't like it...that's ok. We love you anyway. Do other churches have classes on what mormons believe? I am curious, there seems to be quite a few scholars on here. Putting it simply, I would never presume to tell a Baptist things he holds dear to his heart...because I am not a Baptist. Follow the lead.

Because it is so important to their belief system that their religion, and their religion alone, holds the ultimate "truth."

Therefore I have people on this site try to tell me daily what my religion (Judaism) teaches . . . they're never correct. I see people constantly trying to shout down JWs, Mormons, Catholics, Atheists, Wiccans, etc. by telling them what they believe and why they're wrong. I assume that the people doing this know no more about these religions than the people trying to "help me understand" my religion.

I wish it were otherwise, and that a true interfaith exchange of ideas were possible. Unfortunately, it's not possible with some people.

I guess that other churches do have classes on what mormons believe, although I don't know which ones. There are also classes or organisations that are not of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where you can learn about Mormonism. Unfortunately not all of are in a positive way. I am a latter day saint, and I've stepped out of the church for a while. I've realized what I had and what I was missing. On one hand it was not a smart move to just leave the church, but it did gave me a deeper understand of what the gospel means, and of these so called treasures promissed to me. I have returned and I became a lot wiser, stronger. Now, I still have a lot to learn (who doesn't), but I really feel the perfect love that God has for me. And I realise that I can share that same love with all the people around me, near or far. I can really love them, help them, pray for them if they want. It gives so much joy. I can share my testimony (that what I came to believe, and that what became knowledge for me) to other people, and if they want to know if it's really true, then they need to ask for them selves. I did too. That what fills the hear is the subject which you talk about the most.

actually, the craziest thing I ever heard was an interview between the president of FAIR (The Foundation for Apologetic Information & Research, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing well-documented answers to criticisms of LDS (Mormon) doctrine, belief and practice.) and the minister that runs the Live Prayers website. He said voting for Mitt Romney would be a vote for the devil thus the ensueing interview which last I saw was still on his site to listen to. ANYWAYS he claimed to know the Mormon religion better then the President of FAIR (a member who dedicates his life to knowing and sharing the doctrine of the church) Just because he took a class on it in his schooling to be a minister. They also have antimormons travel around speaking to different congregations spreading lies and half truths. Its really messed up. So, if you really want to know what we believe, put some effort in. Visit www.fairlds.org or www.lds.org or any other church sanctioned site. Ask a mormom friend. I assure you we are not lying to get converts or something, how stupid would that be as once you were in and knew the truth you would just leave again. DUH. Anyway, go to the source. ALWAYS go to the source.

I get so sick & tired of people who assert they know what Mormons are all about, and then proceed to prove they have no clue about Mormons or their church by saying Mormons aren't Christians, or that they're a cult, or they practice bigamy, or they don't believe in the Bible, or that they believe Jesus & Satan are brothers and therefore the same, or they're prejudiced against Blacks, or they're snobs, or they're all crazy, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

They cite as references books by Mormon-hating authors, or more usually something they heard or read somewhere, or something their parents once told them (so it *must* be true...)

There's only one real way to understand the Mormons and that is to go to the source ~ get to know them personally. They're humans just like the rest of us. They're not perfect, but they're good Christians who believe in Jesus and are trying just as hard as any other Christians to follow His teachings as best they can.

They may have different interpretations on Christ's teachings & directives, and they do some things differently than other Christian churches ..... but ALL Christian churches have different interpretations on Christ's teachings & directives and do things differently than other Christian churches. If they all believed and did the same things, there wouldn't be so many different "Christian" churches now, would there? Simple logic, simple respect.

Source(s): Been there, done that, many family & friends are Mormon. I left for my own reasons years ago but have no ill feelings toward the church, it's just that my personal beliefs are different. I respect them, and they respect me. http://www.lds.org/

rather, there are 2 statements interior the BoM that are evoked that are are no longer genuine. One is contemporary in Mormon 9:32-33, the place the declare is made that "reformed Egyptian" hieroglyphics is extra compact than their Hebrew. This fact is consistent with early nineteenth century American awareness of linguistics, yet after Egyptian hieroglyphics have been decoded and this awareness unfold to usa, it grew to become usual that the opposite is genuine: Hebrew is extra compact than Egyptian hieroglyphics will ever be. as a results of fact that this is an blunders with reference to the source language of the BoM, it particularly is seen unfavourable. A 2d piece of blunders is contemporary in Ether 15:30-31, the place a decapitated Shiz struggles for breath. the best language reads: "he smote off the pinnacle of Shiz ... he had smitten off the pinnacle of Shiz." Shiz then raised himself up on his palms and "struggled for breath." i'm afraid that may no longer possible and indefensible. yet, those are in basic terms 2 of the various issues of the counsel interior the BoM. See working example a e book by utilising Mormon historian grant Palmer: An Insider’s View of Mormon Origins.

I don't follow your line of reasoning...

What is wrong with people coming together to exchange ideas and beliefs on the internet? It is an opportunity to learn new ideas, beliefs and other things...

Of course there are plenty who use the R&S forums as their personal whipping post and just enjoy calling everyone who believes in God stupid, primitive and other derogatory names; but that's not really the purpose for being here...

True but I have observed that those of different beliefs tend to defend their own belief system and if able to share details about a certain religion they opt to do so (I do) I defend with my knowledge about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and when there is a question that asks for certain details about a certain religion (if I know the answer) I provide what I know about that specific religion. Do I know it all no but if I know the answer I will provide it---not to offend but to help someone with a question.

thank you!!! I despise it when people tell me what I do and don't believe! I had a guy come into my workplace and try to bible bash me and he'd ask a question about my religion (LDS) and when I'd answer, he'd say NO!!! NO!!! and proceed to tell me HIS version of what I believe. I felt very attacked and it shook me for days. I'm the same as you- i've never presumed to tell others what they believe, if anything I ask what they believe so i can understand them better. I hope everyone will have the same courtesy for others in the future

    Very good point.

I think those who do engage in that sort of thing are targeting those who may have an interest someday, to keep them from following through in wanting to learn more/join.

    wanna know?

these are the articals of fath, the first thinks tha mormons are taught as youth

    # We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

    # We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.

    # We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

    # We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

    # We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

    # We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

    # We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

    # We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

    # We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

    # We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

    # We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

    # We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

    # We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
