To help maintain the shedding you should give your dog daily brushing...since you own a lab and they tend to shed a fair bit you will never be able to not have hair..but by daily brushing you will bring down the amount of hair that falls to the ground and sticks to things... Also weekly baths can help as well.

Join the club. My hair is falling out from stress of the shedding.

My boy is a Pointer/Coonhound mix, and he sheds everywhere!!

I have been told, and tried all of the following:

    1) Give a tsp of Cod Liver Oil or Salmon Oil once a day in his food to lubricate the skin thus preventing dryness, and shedding. Not noticing too much of a difference with this. But I keep giving it to him.

    2) Brush frequently, once a day if possible to remove any dead hairs and stimulate the skin.

    3) The FURMINATOR shedding tool. It cost $50 and yes, there's a lot of hair coming off of him, but the shedding only reduced by about 1/3.

    4) Hemp Oil/Hemp Butter with Shea Nut Butter, use sparing amount and rub/massage into the coat every other day after brushing. This seems to make a bit of a difference, I am noticing. I just started this last week. I am using one I bought from ebay from this seller http://home.search.ebay.com/_Pet-Supplies_W0QQcatr... - you can give it a try.

With doing all of this, the shedding seems to have toned down to about half the amount he WAS shedding, so I'm ok, but not ecstatic yet.... I need a doggie flowbee- or the "Suck Cut" if you remember on Waynes World LOL

Labs shed.... a LOT!! The best thing you can do is groom (brush) him regularly, at least a few times a week, it will reduce the amount of hair that ends up on the carpet, furniture, and your clothes. Treat him to a professional groomer every couple of months, that will also help.

A high quality diet will also make sure that his skin and coat are retaining their natural oils. If his skin is too dry, he'll shed more.

Buy a slicker brush and brush your lab at least once a day. A good diet will also reduce the shedding a little but not much.

My vet/groomer is now offering a bath sort of thing that supposedly removed the vast portion of their shedable hair. I think it's meant for early spring time, but it's worth a shot! Call a high end vet clinic or groomer and see if they've heard of it.

Don't worry, it's not Doggy Nair!

The Furminator works miracles. It has reduced my lab mix's shedding by about 80%. Read more reviews on the Petsmart website: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productI...

I got a deal on mine off Ebay, so check their before paying the expensive pet store prices.

Should of gotten a stuffed dog...That is what Labs do..SHED...

I will be glad to switch with you. I have a Bernese Mtn dog and a Husky....

So, if you want to compare who has the most dog hair:)

  • That's what Labs do, there's no way to stop it.

You can reduce it somewhat with frequent brushing and a high-quality diet.
