Athiest songs - which one is best?
I think that many people have felt that XTC's "Dear God" was the athiest's anthem - others seem to go with Emerson Lake and Palmer's "Father Christmas". Recently I have been reaquainted with Blind Melon's "Holy Man" and I think it blows the socks off the other, rocking wise - and it is a more positive message. What do you think?
Sorry to not include links to the different songs - maybe someone else can provide them...
Peace!

Free Will by Rush
There are those who think that life
Has nothing left to chance
With a host of holy horrors
To direct our aimless dance
A planet of playthings
We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot perceive
The stars arent aligned ---
Or the gods are malign
Blame is better to give than receive
You can choose a ready guide
In some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears
And kindness that can kill
I will choose a path thats clear
I will choose free will
There are those who think that theyve been dealt a losing hand
The cards were stacked against them ---
They werent born in lotus-land
All preordained
A prisoner in chains
A victim of venomous fate
Kicked in the face
You cant pray for a place
In heavens unearthly estate
Each of us
A cell of awareness
Imperfect and incomplete
Genetic blends
With uncertain ends
On a fortune hunt
Thats far too fleet...

my favorite is " Imagine" by the late John Lennon. i believe it says it all. i found it to be a great source of comfort when i first started coming to the realization that there is and are no god or gods.

I really like Andrea Boccelli's "Con Te Partiro."
Probably not an atheistic anthem, but I highly doubt we have one.

In your hands-John Farnham. It's not against religion either, but the chorus states the obvious
"In your hands...the freedom that you want is in your hands"
