How do you feel about the Tarot and Runes/christianity?

Ok I asked a question yesterday about makeing tarot cards I got a few rude answers. Out of all curiosity I am not asking you to be rude a reply with stupid answers. I want your opinion on it.

How do you feel about Tarot cards in general.

How do you feel about Runes in general.

How do you feel about a christian using these tools.

I am assuming I will get a lot of its evil and wrong from this so if you do reply with that I would also like to know because I am a Baptist christian...

Where in the Bible does it say that its wrong.

You cannot use witchcraft to link the two because I was once wiccan and I never heard of tarot or rune while I was practicing its something that I anyone can do there are no spells or prayer involed.

Thanks ahead for those of you who dont get on and be rude just to be mean.

1.) I never did tarot but a classmate of mine did and she was ASTONISHINGLY accurate. She shocked me every time she told me the reading.

2.) Since I'm Asatru, runes have a special meaning for me. I've started practicing them when I was about 14 years old (no kidding). They just drew me to them. In years and years of practice, I dare to claim I got pretty good at it. What can I say, I love runes.

3.) The friend who did Tarot was catholic. I thought it was weird, at the time, but obviously it worked well for her and hey, who am I to argue. Although I think that tarot, being a gypsy tool, is somewhat more compatible with Christianity than runes, which are strictly pagan (Asatru). But that's just my opinion.

Practice whatever you want. If it works for you, that's fine I guess. Just make sure you do enough research before to know what you're doing. Don't play with what you don't understand.

My answer: I don't think either are evil. I'm not Christian so I don't believe that inanimate objects can lead to "hell". It does say in the Bible not to seek out seers but then praises the prophets/prophetesses it likes.

The tarot and runes are divination tools - a way of focusing enough to gain insight about the energy surrounding a question or situation.

Runes are also a tool in that each one is individual, has it's own energy and can be used in rune magic/workings. That's not evil. Magic isn't evil - magic is energy and energy isn't evil (and it doesn't come from "the devil" or demons).

Runes can be used as a form of alphabet but that's the very least of their uses.

How do you feel about Tarot cards in general.

    Extra face cards. Cool!

How do you feel about Runes in general.

Not much into engraving wood with crude instruments myself. I prefer letters, pen and ink.

How do you feel about a christian using these tools.

tarot - forbidden by Old Testament, and that would seem to apply in the New Testament as well. Tarot is clearly an attempt to draw on religious sources other than the Christian God for enlightenment, and this is soundly prohibited by scripture.

runes - I assume you mean, in the manner that the norse used them, as magically capable symbols. Again, this is an attempt to derive power from sources other than the Christian God, and so is unacceptable to any Christian.

Scripture makes it clear that *fortune telling*, or mystically predicting the future or even present circumstances, can *only* come from God. Only a true prophet of God is permitted to perform such activities. Such a prophet can be identified by three criteria

    1) They are *never* wrong in their prophecies, not even once

    2) They *always* give credit to God, and *only* to God, for the prophecy

    3) The *never* encourage the worship of *anyone* or *anything* other than God

In the Old Testament, false prophets were punished by execution. In the New, I am uncertain what fate is ordained them, but the authors clearly warn Christians against such people.

The bible is pretty clear on divination. Both runes and tarot are tools of divination.

All these snippits are from the NIV

    Genesis 44:5

Isn't this the cup my master drinks from and also uses for divination? This is a wicked thing you have done.

    Leviticus 19:26

Do not eat any meat with the blood still in it.

Do not practice divination or sorcery.

    Deuteronomy 18:10

Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in [a] the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft,

    Deuteronomy 18:14

The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so.

    1 Samuel 15:23

For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.

Shall I go on or do you get the point?

I feel that Tarot cards are very pretty, but too large to properly play poker with. The Crowley deck has some neat imagery on them.

I feel that Runes are kinda cool. I used to write my notes in FUTHARK runes, transposing letters of the alphabet for runic symbols. Looked awesome, and kept people from asking to borrow my notes.

I don't particularily think of them as 'tools', but if Christians want to use them, go ahead.

First of all, Paganism has been around LONG before Christianity was ever HEARD of. Second of all, I am a FIRM believer in WHATEVER makes you feel good (praying, lighting candles, reading runes, casting spells, going to church, walking through the woods and connecting with nature, etc...) and gets you through your day and if you BELIEVE it helps you and/or those around you, then JUST DO IT! I cant honestly say that one is allowed to go to a church and light a candle and PRAY but then can't go home and do the same thing (which is considered "witchcraft") SO.....connect with nature, Mother Earth and yourself and go ahead and cast your RUNES and read your TAROT!! ENJOY!!!

    Hello

    * How do you feel about Tarot cards in general ~ I feel that they are a good tool for guidance, meditation, divination, personal & psychic growth.

    * How do you feel about Runes in general ~ not my thing, but they are a tool such as tarot.

    * How do you feel about a christian using these tools ~ that would depend on the Christains view of their God & not for me to judge.

    * Where in the Bible does it say that its wrong ~ I do not know the place, but it is the King James version.

    * witchcraft ~ tarot can be link to anything as they are a non denomination tool for spiritual development. I know of plenty of Wiccans who use such tools.

Runes are a part of our history, although they are seen as a tool for divination they are also runic alphabets that were used across Europe and in the British Isles before christianity took hold, christians (forgive this) have used pagan rituals and event and turned them into their festivals, they built churches on sacred ground and used pagan symbols to attract them to the church, a fine example is the yew tree this tree was sacred and you will find them in most old church yards, if the early church can use celtic, druid and sacred elements why can't you. The bible was adapted and rewritten by the church, who really knows what was originally there and what was added to control the people. We have free will given to us by God and remembering and celebrating our heritage as celts or druids or pagans is our God given right.

  • Never used runes but have used tarot cards, I have had a reading done by a few different people a few years ago only 2 I can say were genuine they gave me a reading on things they couldn't possibly have known and things that came true in my future!

Divination in general is condemned, regardless of the method. At best, they are stupid diversions from true holiness. At worst, they are evil devices, forbidden by God:

    Deuteronomy 18:10, 11

    Numbers 23:23

    Leviticus 20:6

    Leviticus 20:27

    1 Kings 15:23

    2 Kings 17:17

    Zechariah 10:2

    Isaiah 44:25
