Why are people more interested in voting for American Idol than voting for?

I wish I knew. The women in my office vote 100 times a night for their favorite "idol" but actually laugh in scorn at those of us who are interested in following the presidential campaign. I think they have become disillusioned with the whole political system and are convinced that their votes don't count, that the wealthy executives of this country own the politicians, and nothing we do will ever matter. So they immerse themselves in Big Brother land and pay no attention to what their elected officials are up to. It's really very sad.

Because the lack of education being broadcast across the networks is an attempt to dumb down the population so they won't realize how the elites are moving us toward globalization. This is why there are 5 parent companies that own all the networks. These 5 companies have globalization interests and are glad to contribute to turning people into sheep. Even the government has increased the size of the Department of Education to make sure our teachers align there agenda with that of the elites.

Sounds crazy I know.....but 'tis the truth.

Because more Americans are interested in music than politics. Because American Idol has much less stringent voting standards than US elections (like having to be 18 years or older, or only voting once). Because American Idol candidates are starry-eyed kids we want to believe in while presidential candidates are career politicians we can't believe in.

Because you don't have to be 18 to vote on American Idol.

Maybe because on American Idol it actually boils down to a popular vote. Maybe because you don't need an age requirement to vote for American Idol.

I've never seen American Idol in my life. I'd rather vote for something that matters.

Wait a second. I'm watching American Idle on my Tivo.

Don't know why you would ask that. There have been nothing but record numbers at the polls in each delegate.

I have no idea what is going on in their heads. Those people clearly have no sense of what is really important.

And to answer your question - it comes down to flash and sensationalism. Oh, look, something shiny - let's pay attention to that! The dumbing down of America, indeed.
