Can anybody explain to me why, in the economic times we are in, our government is so stupid?

Nobody can explain how we were so dumb as to get into this position. We elected the officials we have in office, so we are ultimately at fault. On the upside, you sound very mad at the situation, mad enough to ask this question. That is a step in right direction. With people like you taking an active interest we have hope for the future.

It's the people who didn't vote that have no right to complain.

Because the government cares nothing about the people they are supposed to serve. And I hate to say it but we as the American public ( I include myself) do not stand up for ourselves at all. We take whatever the government do to us laying down. Americans tend to stick our heads in the sand like ostriches and that's what the government love about us. It's sad how complacent the American public has become.

Americans have to realize that if we could unite we could make the government do what we want and not the other way around.

But too many people have their own agenda to care.

the government has *always* been stupid, at least since the time of Abe Lincoln and the Civil War, if not since Woodrow Wilson and World War 1. what you see today is nothing new under the sun...

I have tried to figure them out my entire adult life and still come up with they put their nose where it doesn't belong and not where it does, which is basically what you are saying. All they care about is their time "off" and not us.

Our government is a reflection of it's leader.
