Why do so many people feel that science and religion are at odds?

for starters, young earth creationists use the bible to come to the conclusion that earth is 6,000 years old and science tells us it's approximately 4.6 billion years old. that seems like it's pretty firmly in "at odds" territory to me.

many great scientists also lived when people were even more bigoted and small-minded toward non-christians than they are in modern times. i would think more than a few kept quiet about what they thought.

They are two separate systems - one based on fact and evidence while the other is based off of faith. I don't think that they are at odds, but I also don't think that you can use one to prove or disprove the other. That would be like saying that I am going to use my gardening sheers to disprove the existence of nouns.

The further Science progresses, the more God seems less likely.

There are many atheist scientist out there, that will do all they can to bring doubt to young people out there as to God. Most will continue to slander Christians. But every time a scientist goes to the holy lands to prove the bible wrong they come back Christians.

Science is a continuous research endeavor while the Bible states the way it ought to be!

Richard Dawkins..read it and you will know why science and religion will NEVER be on the same page.

Thank you for setting that right. Maybe it has to do with stereotyping Christians. Some guys here use 'Christian' and 'evolutionist' as opposites.

A lot of people just can't see the big picture.
