Garbage Disposal - one 'hammer' jammed?
My garbage disposal isn't grinding up debris correctly. When I investigated, I found that one of the rotating 'hammers' moves freely, the other is stuck in place. When I try to move it, it seems that the whole inner unit rotates, so I don't get any leverage.
I'm not sure if it's been torqued on the screw, or if something has gotten wedged under the moving part.
Does using the allen wrench to 'back up' the motor do anything for the individual hammers? (The wrench is missing, so a hardware store trip is required in any case).

try sraying a lube down it first like WD-40 or penatrating lube
sometimes they get a little rusty so any little thing will stop it from moving.

I had the same problem. I used a "curb key" (the kind used to turn off the water at the street), with a wooden hammer handle placed to brace the can mechanism to keep it from rotating... Hard to describe, but it only took me a couple of tries.. Good luck.

Use the allen wrench (when you get it) have someone hold the motor still and you
try to free the hammer. I had one with tile thin set in it and had to hold and tap with a hammer and long screwdriver, it works now.
