What is the best time of year to buy a new or used vehicle?

Yes, I know the best time of year for a new vehicle is probably when they release the following year model, but I'm wondering about dealership sales events for used vehicles as well. I know we have Presidents Day sales, Memorial and Labor Day sales. What else? What's a big holiday weekend to purchase a vehicle?

Thanksgiving - towards the end of the year AND the end of the month. At the end of the year they're trying to clear out for the new models so the deals are insane. Also, since it's the end of the month, the sales people are trying to make their quota so they can get their commission. To do this, they give you all sorts of great deals and waived fees that they wouldn't normally.

my husband is a dealer in ky and all the hype is mostly in March. The Big March Madness Sale. In all actuality there really is no best time to buy. They have plenty of rm on there lot to keep yr old cars, nothing really HAS to go to make room. They sell the older cars to wholesalers and make money just fine if they need to move them out. Just sit down with a good salesman and negotiate the best way you know how any time of the yr. That's the best route to go. Good luck, and I hope you don't buy into the hype. The end of the month thing is kinda true they will try alittle harder to adjust your pymt if maybe you think it's too high, but only if they have too because that is cutting into there pocket. But as far as the vehicle price it is already set by the owner. they know it and they decide if they are desperate enough to cut down.

End of month is a great time to BUY your new car, but it is NOT the best time to make your first dealership visit. Salesmen do try harder to make sales at the end of the month, which is about the last five days of the calendar month.

In addition to the end of the month, there are better and worse times of the year to buy. Best time of the year to buy is the end of December, in most dealerships. Dealerships try to make specific quotas for end of month AND end of calendar year, and it is not a popular time to buy, so sales can slump seriously and they will try harder to make a sale, which means a better bargain. If you shy away from buying in the winter because of bad weather, think again: bad weather is when you WANT to be in the car, testing it’s foul weather capabilities.

Other good times of year to buy are end of August and end of September because the old models are taking up space on the dealership property, and they want to make room for the new models to come in. If your heart is not set on a brand new model, this is an excellent time to buy a perfectly good new car that happens to have been manufactured a few months earlier.

Well, I guess 2008 is the time to buy a new car! That is what a local consumer adviser and my mechanic said. The economy being like it is the dealers are praying for people to buy! Also, check the website cars.com for cars in your area at local dealers. That is a wonderful website and 9 times out of 10 the dealers will give you the web price. If you get lucky like i did whoever entered the price will make a mistake and enter a lower price :) Good Luck! I just got a new car and got a great deal.

I don't know about a holiday weekend but I know September is a good time. They are coming out with the new year's vehicles about that time so for instance, you can get a great new 2008 car for less money in september because they are trying to make room for the 2009's

Definitely August/September/October. Also, you want to go in on the last few days of the month. people are trying to reach their sales goals/bonus marks and the dealer in general is more willing to deal.

new cars - end of model year - sept to january. deepest discounts, but remember, it's already a year old for the sake of resale.

used cars - end of year dealers can tend to get more aggressive.

last 3 days of month typically best to negotiate from a position of strength, just know that LOTS of people know that and buy, so long lines to do paperwork.

Right now. Winter, at the end of a short month when the dealers are trying to make their quota.

The best time to buy a car is when you are financially ready. Their are cars everywhere and lot of people with poor credit to buy them. If you have poor credit, you should work on improving your credit, save for a down payment and negotiate your deal. Everyday is a good time to buy a car!
