Can you add something to make polypropylene dye using acid dye?

I would like to know of a compound that could be added to a polypropylene fiber extrusion that would enable me to acid dye the yarn or fiber.

Although polypropylene itself cannot be dyed once it's been extruded into fibers, acid-dyeable polypropylene has been created. One way it's made is by adding quaternized amine groups during extrusion. It's more common to color the polypropylene by adding pigments before extrusion.

Honestly, I believe you're barking up the wrong tree. Polypropylene is so nonpolar that there's nothing for an acid dye to hang onto, and a simple additive would just wash out. Short of using a modified polypropylene co-polymer or blending the PP with a dyeable polymer of a little greater polarity, I don't know what to suggest.

    Sorry!
