I'm a bit confused about the Knights Templar & The Freemasons?
I'm just a bit confused. If the Knights Templar and the Freemasons are connected, and the Knights Templar are/were tied to the Catholic Church, the Freemasons are Protestant weren't they ? Certainly the Grand Lodge are Protestants ? I find it hard to believe, being Scottish and all too familiar with Catholic and Protestant divide that these two groups would be one and the same but of different religions ?
Can anyone explain this ?
Find the whole Knights Templar history fascinating.
Tracy.

Only a bit confused??? Most people are completely confused :)
The Templars were founded by the Catholic Church to protect pilgrams during the Crusades. In the 1300's, Pope Clementine was installed in France, at the request/order/manipulation of the King who then out of greed had the Templars arrested, tortured and executed. For 700 years it was thought the Templars were labelled heretics until the Vatican published the notes of the Pope showing they were exhonerated by the Pope and NOT heretics.
There is no connection between the Templars and the Freemasons - although it does make for some great fiction and fodder for the conspiracy theorists. Likely because there is a Templar degree in the York Rite but it does not claim any lineage to the historic Templars
I am a Freemason, let me know if you have further questions, this is a fascinating topic.
to some others:
* ephesians5-11 is full of false information on freemasonry, sorry.
* freemasons do NOT claim a lineage from the Templar's
* freemasons are not satanic

Yes where to start.
Ok the general idea is Pope started the Knights Templar and while they were gaining power and money amongst other things in Israel in Arabic areas the Pope seemed a bit threatened and when they were passing in France they got nabbed. France and the Pope had a prior beef so this could be motivation. The pope came and they were killed, labeled as heretics. It was said they were calling something out which was associated with Baphomet but most scholars believe it was an Arabic word for G-d. Some Kinights templars got away and believed start in Roslyn Chapel to hide and be in a neutral state.
Roslyn=Rose Line
OK in Roslyn you will see an early engraving of a ritual used in Masonry.
Next up all people in Illuminati were Masons and when Skull and Bones was started the founder went to Germany. Germany had shut down Illuminati just prior.
Also the Templars had a skull or that was the claim. See Joh's skull which is at the vatican somewhere. As you may or may not know Masonic lodge is dedicated to both st Johns.

The Knights Templar were an order of monks during the Crusades. They ceased to exist in the 1300s. When the Freemasons began in the 1700s, they used terms from the Order of Knights Templar in their ritual, but there is no connection with the real order. The Freemasons are a fraternal organization that uses imagery from the medieval stonemasons' guild of the middle ages and the building of the Temple of Solomon as the symbol of the highest effort of the master masons' trade. Therefore, the Knights Templar, who were commissioned to guard pilgrims on their pilgrimages to the Temple in Jerusalem, are connected symbolicly to that story. There is nothing more than symbolism involved. It's similar to the Olympic games being connected to the actual Greek Olympic games of ancient times.

The Knights Templar Degree of today's Masons has no direct connection to the original Knights Templar. In the 18th century the Masons started a degree involving rites based on the Templars as a way to teach morals and Christian lessons. It is the only Masonic degree where you must take a specific obligation to Defend the Christian Faith.
I'm in the Templar degree myself and we spend most of our meetings doing sword drill. It's much less mysterious than most people wound think.

Rat are universally reviled. There have been a few famous mice, Mickey, Mighty and Speedy Gonzalez, but mostly they're pests. The most famous squirrel, is Rocket J. (Rocky) Squirrel, who with Bullwinkle the Moose, risked life and liberty engaging in dangerous counterintelligence work against the KGB during the Cold War. In his merit, all squirrels are honored.

Freemasons claim a lineage from the Templar's but it very dubious.
Freemasons are an old Stonemasons guild
that has formed into a pseudo religion full of myths and mumbo jumbo that no body really understands.
Least of all themselves!

You are getting the Orange Order and the Black Preceptory organisations confused with the Freemasonry. They are separate but have similar mumbo jumbo rituals to the masons and are exclusively full of Protestants and (bigots). A all these lodges are very suspect, especially as far as 'supposed' Christians are concerned.

the freemasons stole some ritual and history from the templars, who were slaughtered by the catholic church.
freemasons are not protestant, nor are they Christian. they are a neopagan mystery cult who make blood oaths of secrecy.
according to freemason belief, to be a good man, you must be a good mason, and to be a good woman, you must be the good wife of a good mason. nothing religious about that, is there?
to the masons who answered: how'd you feel when you were baptized into the faith?
