Military and Asthma?

I was turned down for entry into the Marine Corps at the age of 18. I was told that asthma disqualifies me for military service. I have several friends and a sister serving in the military, some in the Army, and one in the Marines, who tell me that they know people who managed to get in with a history of asthma.

I don't want to lie during MEPS...which has been the suggestion to this point, but I would like to know if it's possible to still be eligible for entry. I do not currently have issues with asthma.

You're recruiter is going to tell you to admit nothing. Legally, the USMC has no legal access to your previous medical history. The only medical history they are allowed any kind of knowledge about is what you tell them and what they discover through physical exams, medical exams, and interviews. That being said, if you don't tell them about your asthma, they won't know about it. But, since you already told them you had asthma, the reason you were disqualified in the past, they already know about it. Your recruiter should be able to get you a waiver for having asthma in the past, as long as it is not a current problem or even a recent problem. Speak to your recruiter about it. If your not satisfied with their answer, go up the chain of command. Stress to everyone that you speak to that you no longer have asthma and that you really want to be in the Marines. They will work with you because they need men and women to enlist. Recruiting is not as easy of a job as it sounds like.

I feel your pain. I've had asthma for 14 years now and have seen several doctors. The truth is, there is no known cure for asthma at the moment. But the symptoms can be prevented. It really depends on what causes your brother's asthma. Mine is usually dust and hot weather. But I think the universal method is using the control inhaler.

I cured my Asthma the natural way?

Nope if you tell them you have asthma you wasted your time NO BRANCH WILL let you in. I lied and I will tell you it was hard and There were a few other people that lied and got kicked out with dishonorable discharges because they lied. So, it's up to you, but hey if you think you can do it go for it. I tell you from experience the marines runs a lot. That's all I did for the first 5 months of my marine corps life is run. I never had a problem with it because I ran before I came in and my father was a marine so he pretty much told that's al they do. Also you do a lot of crazy hiking with weight on your back to it's really up to you. But, you can't even tell you're closest friend because they will tell you have to keep your mouth shut about it. Lie Lie until you fry is the motto. If you are physically fit and you know you wont have a problem with it go fot it.

asthma past age 12 is a PDQ with no waivers authorized. IF you can pass a metacoline challenge test you MIGHT have a very slim chance at getting the MEPS docs to recommend a waiver. as in less than 10% chance....

When I signed for my son to joim the Army Nat. Guard at 17, the recruiter said , "NO, he did not have athsma as a baby" . He said that would keep him out of the Army and that if it was when he was young, it no longer mattered.
