Suppressors for hunting?
What is your opinion on legalizing suppressors for hunting? I'll state mine below.
Several countries allow suppressors for hunting purposes. I am a bit disappointed that the US has such strict regulation on a simple too, but that is a different spiel.
Allowing suppressors during hunting season would allow sportsment to further respect their neighbors by not scaring them with the loud report of a rifle, it would lessen the impact of the noise on wildlife, and it would be a lot better for the shooters ears. It seems like a good idea to allow legally owned suppressors for hunting. I do think there should still be strict guidelines regarding who can own a suppressor, but I don't understad disallowing them for sporting purposes.

6 AnswersHunting1 decade agoInput on Conservation?
Just recently, I ran across the Conservation section of Yahoo! Answers. It is in the Environment link from the main page. I posted a suggestion to provide a link from Outdoor Recreation so those posting in this section could more easily share their views and ideas.
I know many of us are involved in conservation efforts as outdoors enthusiasts, so help me out if you want this section to have a link from Outdoor Recreation.
Here's a link. Give it a thumbs up so the Yahoo! staff know you think it's a good idea.

2 AnswersHunting1 decade agoSingle Stack Magazine for XD 40?
I carry an XD 40 as my concealed carry weapon. I love the high capacity magazine, but unfortunately, my state's law only allows a sidearm to hold 9 rounds if carried in the field while hunting. Does anybody know of a company that sells a single-stack magazine for the XD?
1 AnswerHunting1 decade agoIssues concerning Gun Control?
With the upcoming election, I am interested to hear your opinions on this particular matter. Personally, I am against most of the control policies. I feel that, by the very fact that each of us has the right to own and carry a firearm, we are very protected from both domestic criminals and foreign enemies.
Thomas Jefferson said the following, quoting Cesare Beccaria in On Crimes and Punishment (1764).
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms . . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
What are your thoughts on the issue? I am not here to try to bash anyone with an alternative opinion; in fact, I am very eager to hear them along with the support of a well-formed argument.
If you state your opinion, please do explain why.
9 AnswersElections1 decade agoGun Control...your thoughts?
It seems I've been misunderstood recently in the way I answered a question about the upcoming election with its regards to potential new firearms regulations.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aglqn...
My intention here was not to support any proposal to put more restrictions on our right to own firearms, but to bring up a few points for thought. As one answerer incorrectly supposes, I am not one of those who "give up our rights for supposed peace and safety..." In fact, I am the proud owner of more than 20 firearms, and I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to use them recreationally as well as my right to carry them for defensive purposes.
I do, however, want to bring up the question to determine the opinions of fellow hunters. How (do you feel) should we approach this situation? I mentioned the logic behind registration and received a very negative response. What are your ideas?
18 AnswersHunting1 decade agoM1 Carbine Identification?
My grandpa purchased an M1 Carbine about 5 years ago. I have no idea what he paid for it, and neither of us know how to tell whether it's an original or a replica model. Can anybody give me some direction with trying to solve this mystery?
Also, if it is an original, is there any way we can figure out who made it? I know there were several manufacturers during WW2.
3 AnswersHunting1 decade agoAnyone Concerned?
I just read an article in my local newspaper (the Grand Rapids Press) that explained a new bit of legislation to be set in action starting in November.
Apparently, there is a new EPA requirement that will call for all recreational boaters (sail, fishing...everything) to pay for a Federal Water Pollution Permit for all Indicental Operational Discharges (this is a fancy way of talking about engine cooling water, deck runoff, and the like).
I personally agree with the author of the article in saying we need to take action about this by writing to our congressmen. These requirements were originally designed for larger, ocean-going vessels, and are absolutely ridiculous to enforce for recreational boats. In fact, these have been exempt from personal watercraft since the 70's, when the EPA issued a common-sense exclusion. Let's try to keep it that way.

I've read really good things about these holsters for conceal carry. Anybody own one or have any experience using one? What do you think of it?
1 AnswerHunting1 decade agoMilitary and Asthma?
I was turned down for entry into the Marine Corps at the age of 18. I was told that asthma disqualifies me for military service. I have several friends and a sister serving in the military, some in the Army, and one in the Marines, who tell me that they know people who managed to get in with a history of asthma.
I don't want to lie during MEPS...which has been the suggestion to this point, but I would like to know if it's possible to still be eligible for entry. I do not currently have issues with asthma.
10 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoCoyote Hunting?
I've been a deer and rabbit hunter for most of my slightly young life. I was reading in Outdoor Life a bit about predator calling and hunting, and would love to give it a try. I live in Michigan, but I hunt mostly in Southern Indiana. Anybody out there with some experience have solid advice on how to get started and where/how to hunt? In my experience, shared knowledge is the best way to learn how to hunt, rather than trying to "do it by the books."
Thanks guys.
Please, please don't quote an article to me...I read them too.
4 AnswersHunting1 decade agoWhere to hunt in Michigan?
I am a college student who has only been in Michigan for a few years. I have hunted in Indiana for all of my life (since about 5 years old), and it has always been on land owned by my family or friends of the family. Since I've been here, I haven't been able to hunt, mostly because I am unable to find land that is open to a 20-year-old college student with a gun. I consider myself a responsible hunter, and I simply take this as an understandable pre-judgment or misunderstanding.
Does anyone know of a good place to hunt around Grand Rapids, or Kent County, in Michigan. I would love to be able to get out and hunt this year without driving 8 hours to home.
Thanks
