M1 Carbine Identification?
My grandpa purchased an M1 Carbine about 5 years ago. I have no idea what he paid for it, and neither of us know how to tell whether it's an original or a replica model. Can anybody give me some direction with trying to solve this mystery?
Also, if it is an original, is there any way we can figure out who made it? I know there were several manufacturers during WW2.

Look for the ser.# and break down the gun to make sure all the parts have the same ser.# if so the price is higher. Then go online and sure for that ser.# and it will tell you what year span and manufacture produced the rifle.

I would start with this book:
http://www.amazon.com/War-baby-U-S-caliber-carbine...
and this book:
