Do you think this is helpful for teen moms?

I am 25 years old but had my children at ages 17 and 19. I have done really good for myself despite the stero-types associated with teen moms. I hope one day to open a shelter for teen moms so they have a place where they can go and feel respected and understood. Until I can complete my degree I started a myspace page dedicated to this topic to hopefully help some teen moms out there because when I was pregnant there was no support. I understand, first hand how difficult and yet rewarding it can be and I want to give unbiased support to these teens. If you are or were a pregnant teen would you appreciate something like this? I live in NH and therefore made it to respond to local girls but obviously anyone could benefit.

Update:

Although I do think it is important to teach about BC, its not about to help the situation that they are in. Honestly, as a pregnant teen all you tend to hear is about how you should have been using BC...I dont' intend to drill that anymore than it already has been. BUT I do think its a good idea to have a resource that lists all the types of birth control options. After I had my daughter I had no clue how many BC options were out there! Its shocking, yet choosing which one can be very over whelming. I will definatly add something about that tonight as I am at work right now. Thanks for the suggestion.

You need to include in your site LOTS of information on birth control and responsibility. I am always amazed at all the posts here from teens who are scared and asking if they are pregnant because they were stupid. Not much you can do about their current mistake ( and I am sure that the very vast majority are mistakes) but along with support, PLEASE teach them about the above.

You are a very very nice person.

I like how you want to actually do something

about it, unlike other people around here. I'm 16

and Pregnant, I won't be having my baby until July

and I'll be 17 in June. I am though, getting support from

my mother, step mother, and father, and my fiance's mother. (His father is no longer in the picture anymore.) Anyways,

I think that this is a good idea, because so many teen

girls out there that are pregnant get attention. People

just think their worthless because of them being

pregnant. Sometimes it's not even their faults!

A lot of teen pregnancy's are from getting raped.

Well this is all I got. I'm at school right now, but I'll check

out the myspace page later after school. Thanks again!!!

Personally I think this could help any YOUNG parents. My wife always heard rude comments while she was shopping even at the grocery store. It's amazing how rude people are. Even your family can be thinking that just because you are young you wont know how to parent. I dont care if you are 20 or 30 being a first time parent is scary because its like nothing else in life. Only difference i would assume is finacial stability.... and sometimes thats not even the case.

By the way to the ones that are scared to tell your parents... Just do it! My wife (then girlfriend) was scarred to death to tell hers so I did with her sitting right next to me. Knowing full well how conservative and old school they were. (so are we with a newschool twist ;) but it was better for us to tell them right off so they could get over the shock than to wait for them to find out from someone else or from her tummy starting to stick out. Just let them know you would really love their emotional support and that you love this baby and you want to keep it and that you are ready for the responsibility no matter how hard they may be.

The more things there are out there for young parents the better!

I think so. Many states also have home visiting program through the childrens trust fund for teen moms too. They usually have monthly social gatherings. I know there are a few teen mom shelters around here.
