Do you think this is true?

I've been giving these lines a lot of thought, and I'm still undecided. So what do you guys think? Are people really like this?

"We look before and after,

And pine for what is not:

Our sincerest laughter

With some pain is fraught"

- To a Skylark, by Percy Bysshe Shelly -

Update:

Yes, he did write "the cloud". Great poem ;)

I do think we all have a spiritual longing for something we can never reach. That's true of atheists too, as I'm not talking about a longing for any version of G-d, but for something 'beyond' which we may touch in music or on top of mountain or when we see a new-born baby or whatever. And that may mean that the source of our laughter, being about the dissonance between things, connects to the pain of our longing.

It's time I re-read Shelley, after having not done so for almost 40 years........!

Yes,very true for the vast majority, how I wish I was in the minority.

Edit,on second thoughts,I think I would be a little less than human if I was in the minority.
